Over the past 3 weeks I have been encountering a strange, high pitched "whistle" It's not like ringing you would get in your ears, I have experienced that, just as I'm sure everyone has, at one time or another. It could be a case of tinnitus, I am not sure, but...I get the feeling it is not originating inside my on ears! it seems to be external. I am 100 percent sure about this, but again, is any one of you here experiencing something similar?

I encounter this kind of thing in my own ears fairly frequently; in all likelihood it is just tinnitus, but you might want to keep an eye (er, ear) on it either way.

LOL!! LOL!!

Okay, I've had enough for one morning. I've got to go find something productive to do.

..But to stay on track-
I've had ringing, different tones occuring at the same time, sometimes stereo sometimes not and I know the reason- I got bad ears.

as i type,i am hearing it and been hearing it since childhood.I have had ear exams and was told all good.lately it doesnt drown in the background.before i would just forget about it,now it seems hard to ignore and can drown other sounds. i have learned to live with it,no meds.

hi, i have been looking on ats for some years, this is my first post. l too have been hearing this on and off for nearly a year now. the only way i can discribe what im hearing is a kind of frequency . its getting more intense lately. i am so glad that you put this post up. i know we are not the only people hearing this. But i only wish more people would take this seriously.

Yeah guys, I know what some of you are thinking. Jymmy just developed a case of tinnitus and now thinks he's tuned in to transmissions from Neptune, I am not saying its not something going on with my own hearing, just that I am not perceiving this as ringing in my ears. Its like one of those "sound grenade" apps you can get on an android phone, or maybe a high pitched dog whistle. Not only do I hear the sound, but I also feel it resonating inside my head.I hear it no matter where I am, at home, work etc. It isn't all of the time, but i'd have to say 2\3 of my day I hear/feel it.

Thank you for understanding what I was referring to. Its so easy for most people to get caught up into making jokes about everything, I already knew the first explanation would be, tinnitus, of course. I just wanted feedback (such as yours) to explore other possibilities. What with all of the purported "goings on" maybe some of us are now able to pick up some higher range frequencies, maybe something that our planet is emitting due to changes in our climate, planets, etc Thanks everyone, I do appreciate all of your ideas. I guess I'm hoping its not tinnitus, I'd rather have developed extra sensory perception than a crummy ear ailment. It does feel weird though, not an annoying pitch, just a steady vibrational whistle, it is slightly annoying, but i can deal with it.

I hear all sorts of things, I have tinnitus but some of the strange noises are defiantly external.

Start paying real attention to where you hear it, you can locate the source by turning your head, blocking noise by holding things up like magazines and hands (you look very strange doing this!) - turning off everything electrical is a good one too, then systematically turning things back on - quite often it can be something like a mobile phone charger accidentally left in a wall socket... Make sure to include any wifi networks you can also... Other than that are there any new power lines or transmitters in your area?

Also get a doctor to check for ear wax.

I've also been hearing the noise, for close to a year now. Its not tinitus. Its worse for me if theres a thunderstorm nearby. Also I've noticed that if the magnetosphere is getting hit real hard then so am i. I always hear it but if i dont think about it, it kindof somewhat goes away.

i recommend downloading a free tone generator and doing a comparison to figure out exactly what frequency is it you are hearing,

this would make it easier to speculate on a cause, other then the typical "it's all in your head" responses your gonna keep getting,

i went through something similar, i could only hear it in my house, people thought i was nuts for a few months it was just after i purchased a new cell phone, after wandering the house in search of it i finaly figured out it was the charger to the phone i purchased,

i tell ya unpluging that thing felt so good on my ears/head. and then i was able to say i told you so to the skeptics in my house.

electronics will sometimes emit a high frequency/ high pitched tone like what i heard,

objects that are just resonating are usualy lower freq, like placing to glass cups next each other at the right proximity, ontop of an active speaker would also produce a frequency you can hear,

btw are you experiencing the same pitch? or does it vary? from occurence to occurence? or perhaps it changes pitch while hearing it?

That?

Oh thats nothing to worry about.

Just some aliens having fun beaming high pitched frequencies into your brain.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

i hear the high pitched sound occasionally...does feel like a wave of somsort..microwave etc.

brain receptors/nerve endings picking up strong signals being emmited????
in our society we are bombarded with waves constantly...never has this happened in our earths history.
the truth is no one has a complete idea on how it effects us...untill about 50ys later

Just a thought. l heard something on a talk radio station the other night. An electrician rang in and said that the energy saving light bulbs let off a frequency, l didnt take too much notice at first until another one came on later and said the same. l carefully removed the bayonet and it did look very technical. The first thing l thought when l saw it was why would anyone take something that cost a few pennies to make and replace it with something so technical and obviously more costly to make and insist that we must use them. Any thoughts?

Well as sugguested the first thing you should do is get you ears and yourself checked. Might save you a lot of stress & hassle! (High blood preasure & heart problems can also causes the perception of high pitched noise's so get checked!!)

If your ears are tested OK, then it could be varsious things, I personally had a lot of hassle with TV's when I was a kid, not now with LCD's, but a CRT could keep me awake from ANY room in the house, even with the sound disabled, it was like I could hear the tube. Hated that sound, cringing just now at the thought!

Im pretty sensitive to sound at night, I can't even have devices in standby where I sleep as I can hear them.

if its none of that, It could be "the hum", there are various different "hums" as well as various cause's. (dont think has ever really been explained though)

en.wikipedia.org...

Also just noted the last post, I use energy saving bulbs also, I have had faulty ones which make noise, but cannot say I have noticed any noise off them other than that. although to be fair my problem is mainly at night, when the lights are off. (I use Panasonic Energy saving bulbs, get them for free!)

OK not recommended!

These new energy saving bulbs have some nasty stuff in them, heavy metals and chemicals and God knows what - technically if you break one of these things you are supposed to evacuate the room and air it out... I know this because one bar I was drinking at was changing a bulb and the girl dropped one - ALL customers left! all following this one guy who claimed he worked on health and safety, so I looked it up and yep he was right.

Honestly is that true..i see no warnings on the packaging...

why do they send em to my house for free and the older/brighter ones no longer exist..these ones look like they cost much more to manufacture..it says they last for ten yrs....BS.

this thread has got me thinking...
