It used to be that if you posted in a thread that got trashed to the waste bin, your post would still show up in your posting history. You'd get a 404 if you tried to click on the thread, but at least you could see you made a post in a trashed thread and what the title of the thread was. It was also counted in your post count.

Now things have changed, and in my opinion for the worse. Now you see nothing anywhere if a post you made was in a trashed thread. It is deleted from your post history and the thread is completely gone *poof*. There is no record (at least visible to members) that any transaction ever took place there at all.

This effectively allows the deletion of ATS history, with the simple trash binning of a thread by the mods.

So are posts like this still added to your post count? I think they still are, but shouldn't be, and would like clarification on this.

And also, if you author a thread that gets trash binned, does this still add to your threads count?

And I believe that this warranted a separate thread outside of ATS issues so that members are warned of this fact that some of their posts, and their history, will be completely erased.

This isn't new. I've had this happen a few times in the past and well prior to the 2010 updating. An example that comes to mind is the thread regarding a members avatar that was of her breastfeeding her baby. The conversation was regarding whether or not the avatar was appropriate (completely tasteful and appropriate in my opinion) because she had been asked to remove it. The thread went 24+ hours with multiple pages and then completely vanished from my profile, her profile, everyones profiles. This has been happening off and on, since the time I have been here. As to why, that is a question for the Mods.

Well thanks for that, but I have never seen a post I've made disappear completely off the record like that until today. And that's from a post I know I made yesterday. Thread's gone, post is gone, no record of it at all in my post history. Some may not care, but I do.

Understandable. As was I, when it happened to me then.

You know, I can handle the color changes and a lot of other things I don't like about the way the site has become cartoon looking, but this is over the top. If something comes up now they can just *poof* any accountability away like it never happened.

Well, I hope that you get a valid explanation.

In my example, there was no explanation as to why the thread vanished as opposed to being closed.

Yeah, me too.

At least by closing the thread and leaving it up there is some record of what happened or what was said. This way just erases the entire thing. I don't understand how ATS management would not see that it would make some of us uncomfortable. It's true that some other sites will do this, but so what. There is a need for accountability on a site like this, and up to this point I thought we had it.

Of course, it gets attention that way, and maybe a flag or two.

I find this particular forum of ATS most amusing.

If a thread is sent to the "trash" and you can't access it what is the point in having a link to it?

Really, there is life outside of ATS, try it some time.

Totally agree with you here! And it kindda gives me a bad gut feeling about this. When something has the power to take away at will, it most likely will, specially if its convenient for its on purposes.
Flag for ya!!!

My question would be, if there are no records of it being on ATS, whats to stop people from making another just like it and claiming ignorance? I think the ATS issuses thread should be a forum onto its self considering how many unique questions go there from the questions board.

There should be an "old my ats" button as well.

Please contribute any further comments to the ATS Issues Thread.

If you ever have any issues regarding actions taken against one of your posts or threads, please use the Complaint forum to get the full attention of the staff.

Closed.

Actually this is wrong.. Just because they erase it off the the site doesnt mean its erased.. It is still in the sql db. I think it stays there forever.. I used to run So911 and ran a forum on that, we would delete old deleted posts and it would still show up in the db.. So they can somewhat erase it just cause erase it completely..

But this is assuming however, this is a homemade site with thier own database so I am not sure how things rule here, but i think it would be the same process since its all the same thing diffrent smell..
