Google Scr__s the Pooch! (again)

Again, Google does something incredibly stupid, without any notice and f__k's-up all it's users.
On the heels of this disaster earlier this year on their web page, they have now (in their infinite wisdom) decided to change the way URL's are displayed on web pages when using their "Chrome" web browser.

As noted here, Google has changed the way URL's are shown in their Chrome web browser - breaking with all industry convention, and confusing all their users.

Chrome now suppresses display of the "http://" portion of the URL's - both in the address bar, and while "hovering" over URL's displayed on web-pages (to see the URL you are about to click).

There's no user-configurable option to turn this new "feature" on or off. Users are just stuck with it. No transition - just WHAM!! -you're whole world is different without explanation.

Needless to say, this leads to lots of confusion with end-users. Over the last several years, there have been many Phishing sites and other Internet scams. In response to those, various arms of the computer industry have been educating users to check throughly all URL's before they click them and start entering credit-card numbers, personal information, or logon names & passwords. It took literally years to get users educated to look out for non-SSL URL's asking for stuff, URL's with re-directs in-them, etc. Now, Google just erased all that, and confused it's entire Chrome user-base.

Stop using Chrome. If you like the way it works, download SWIron, which uses the same source code, but doesn't report your searches to Google and doesn't shorten URL's.

I don't mind the new update, it still displays when you are on a https page and to be honest I don't need to see the start of the URL the whole time. Plus the new part that all of a URL you hover over is displayed is a nice improvement over the past. That said I also use iron and on chrome I have the analytics opt-out installed. And part of what I don't like about the update is the removal of the go/stop button, small change I know but it just doesn't feel right without it.
While on the topic, is it worth installing the opt-out add-on on iron?
