It's a Miracle - Really?? and the involvement of God

Greetings to all of you!

I've been doing some thinking about 'miracles' lately and I have a couple of thoughts to share with you all. I also have some questions for the ATS membership.

As a guy who has been raised in a traditional christian home, I have always been exposed to family and friends who stated that miracles really do occur. Many a time, when someone was critically ill and then experienced a remission or turn-around it was said that a miracle occurred. I have to ask "Does a miracle always have to be good?" or is it simply something that happens that is unexplainable by modern science or religion?

If we go with the above definition, can't something bad that happens also be a miracle? Traditionally, good things are called miracles and bad things are called disasters. Now my confusion starts here - If God is involved in ALL things, then doesn't this mean that he causes (or allows) disasters to happen on personal and global scales? I understand that God allows men to practice free will with the attendant consequences but look at the news on any given day - hundreds or even thousands of innocent people are killed or rendered homeless through NO fault of there own.

I expect most of you to tell me that God is the cause of all good things and Satan the cause of all bad things but I just can't accept this. I don't believe that God is at all involved with the affairs of mankind on a daily level. While I can still accept that God had a hand in the creation of man and the universe, I just don't see any evidence that God is still involved with this creation. How could 'he' be??

It seems all too obvious to me that both good and bad things happen, well, just because they happen!! For example, do I believe that God allowed or caused the huge natural gas explosion in California? NO! Do I believe that Satan caused the explosion? NO! Since neither of these seem possible, I have to conclude that events happen completely randomly and that it's mostly a 50/50 chance of good or bad results in any situation.

If the above is true, then the only possible explanation is the God does NOT intervene in events at all. Once in a while, something unexplainably wonderful will happen and then sometimes unspeakably bad things happen as well.

Just to play devils advocate : for you Aidan .

Do you not think that an all- knowing, omnipotent, omnipresent God , would of known that that natural gas explosion was going to happen in California ?

There is a far more simple explanation: God does not exist, thus god is not involved in any of this. These so called miracles are just coincidences.

I believe only in a Creator - not the God in the Bible as the Bible was written by men that we know nothing about. I think we are now on our own in this vast universe and because everything we know has a chain reaction good and bad things are coinsidence. If everything was good we would have no goals to make it better, it might become boring and we would loose interest in our battle for survival. Looking forward other members opinions.
