Clinton Suggests Plan Colombia-Style Initiative for Mexico, Central America

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, has said that the US is prepared to widen the so-called war on drugs into a Plan Colombia-style initiative for Mexico and Central America. Speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations, Clinton also said the drug cartels in Mexico are coming to resemble an insurgency.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: "These drug cartels are now showing more and more indices of insurgency. All of a sudden, car bombs show up, which weren’t there before. So it’s becoming—it’s looking more and more like Colombia looked twenty years ago, where the narcotraffickers control certain parts of the country. The newly inaugurated president of Costa Rica, President Chinchilla, said, 'We need help, and we need a much more vigorous US presence.' So we are working to try to enhance what we have in Central America."

Mexican lawmakers immediately criticized Clinton’s remarks. Sen. Ricardo Monreal of Mexico’s Labor Party said, "If the United States thinks it is necessary to apply the same model to us they applied to Colombia, they are mistaken."

How exactly will invading another country help the US? After 40 years of a failed "war on drugs" and nearly 10 years of a failed "war on terror" the government seriously wants to launch another invasion? How stupid can they be?

Do they seriously think they can stop the flow of drugs? Or is this just so the CIA can tighten its grip on the cartels?

“Mexico is a large and progressive democracy with a growing economy,” Obama said in an interview with La Opinion, a Spanish-language newspaper in Los Angeles. “As a result, you can’t compare what is happening in Mexico with what happened in Colombia 20 years ago.”

Obama’s remarks contrasted with those made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who said yesterday that escalating Mexican violence resembles the war of terror waged against the Colombian government two decades ago.

And invading Mexico will help? How exactly? Instead of trying to dicate another country's domestic policies, how about the US worries about its' own and defends its' borders?

There are two critical thoughts I have in terms of Latin America and the War on Drugs.

1) Money - Trying to remove money from any Federal Agency or Dept. is like trying to steal and addict's crack, although the crackhead might be more willing than those from DC. Considering that almost every sector of the government receives money for this war, you'd be hard pressed to find those in DC who wish to end it, even when all the rationality is on the side of ending it.

2) Control - The idea is simple. Create an underground market, flood it with US dollars, and watch the excuses to not only involve ourselves further in Latin America but to add to our control. The market was created by having enough enforcement to keep things from getting too violent and crazy at home, but not enough to really do an effective job of fixing things.

Clinton is a moron. The idea is simple, if you remove a group's money, you seriously reduce or eliminate it's power. You remove the money by redirecting to stay in America with taxes and sane regulations by State government.

But why would they give up all that money and control?

Answer? They won't, unless we make them.

Why doesn't Clinton come right out and tell us that the US wants to set up some banana republics, again.

And Americans wonder why America isn't the most loved country on the planet....

No, but its getting there and they're bringing it into the US, so I guess in a sense its not comparable because its worse.

Well.. we could annex them.. dissolve their government and make all Mexicans into Americans, divide it into States and take over all government function ... Mexico is an incredibly wealthy country, sadly, it's just one of the most corrupt in the World.

Personally, I'd bet on Clinton's education, IQ scores and grades over obama's any day - and I'm no fan of Clinton.

Let's get past this absurd, childish insult game. Clinton and Obama are both extremely intelligent people, but they have different personal agendas and goals. Obama wants a peaceful , multilateral resolution, but Clinton wants a martial, unilateral solution. What distinguishes these two approaches is solely that Obama's plan would bring Mexico and America together as equal, and Clinton's plan would bring them together under a strict hierarchy (America sits on Mexico's face).

The Pentagon hasn't acted yet because they are waiting for a Great Man to appear among the 'insurgency' and become a charismatic leader. Once a Great Man appears, they can create a media myth around him, as they did with Osama bin Laden or Pancho Villa, and justify their actions against the 'drug cartels'. The essence of a successful war is timing, and the Pentagon will bide their time.
