The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system, but it is more than private belief and has a public aspect. Most religions have organised behaviors, congregations for prayer, priestly hierarchies, holy places and scriptures.

Academics studying the subject have defined religion into three broad categories: world religions, a term which refers to transcultural, international faiths, indigenous religions, which refers to smaller, culture-specific religious groups, and new religious movements, which refers to recently developed faiths.[3]

Religion? That gets my vote for worst invention ever.

Religion has done nothing but divide people and cause wars and strife.

Sure, it's given people "rules" to live by, but so has the U.S. Constitution. And the Constitution isn't based on myths and doesn't use fear mongering as it's base to support it's agenda.

IMO the laser is the most underrated, overlooked, and ignored invention of the last century that nearly everyone would sorely miss if it hadn't been invented. If you sit around and think of all the things that lasers are used for (and plenty more than just pretty light shows) you will be sitting there thinking for a long, long time....especially considering all the uses that most people don't even know about or would ever think about.

Not long ago I saw this idiotic documentary about the 10 top inventions of the 20th century and not once did the dunderheads mention the laser, despite mentioning many things that would be impossible w/o it, like barcode scanners and the internet. Take away all the world's lasers and we all go back to the 1950's technologically speaking!

Laser does not seem greatest. I'd say it was the last of great inventions. The following 50 years brought nothing to speak of.
