Do you think that pastor is really going to burn a Quran?

this should be fun to watch, not the first time a koran has been burned and it definetely wont be the last.
I can just picture some stupid muslims in pakistan or whatever jumping up and down now. saying how dare they insult the book of peace lets kill them all.
muslims are so predictable say one bad thing about their so called religion of peace and outcome the knives and bombs and effigies to be burned.

I mean as in what the pastor says, he sounds undecided as to actually do it or not and will continue to pray and leave it (final decision) to God on the 11th.

What the man is doing is wrong, as it is not the correct action, but it is his right. Ok, so the fire marshall, has stated that there he can not have a burn permit, however, what about using a grill to cook something, does this mean that people can not hold a barbque out in the privacy of their own homes? I believe, like all extremist, it is a means for attention. I believe that if he does it right, they are not going to have anything to say or the ablity to stop him from doing such. In short, with the media, government and the islamic world acting as they have, in short they are daring him to do such. And like all those who are firm set in their minds, are not likely to change it.

Why wouldn't he just use a charcoal grill and cook some ham steaks on it? Not trying to pour salt on anyones cut here but this is just as bad as anything else the government wants to control. Weather you agree with it or not he has the right to express his views, just the same as the people you see on tv over in the middle east all the time burning American flags. Sure it is frustrating to watch but thats their right. Just like the bible it's just a book, what happens when a book store catches fire and bibles & koran's get burnt in the fire? Hey that was weird my spell checker wants me to capitalize koran but not bible?? Wow perhaps there is a conspiracy with the whole muslim thing.

Well I hope not. I'm kinda not into the disrespectful nature of burning mine or others peoples sacred texts.
So, if I have my own likes or dislikes I can choose to not read the book, change the channel, go to a different
website. Or the like. But that is my way.

Then again, this is America, and pretty much anything goes. Such as that ,Who was it? Applethorpe?

Well there you have it. take it or leave it. It is all about the freedom of expression in America. AND, it Sells.
Just remember, some of these folks are sensitive and do not have a very good sense of humor.
That pastor will no doubt end up with a price on his head, or a fat ass on his head, or a fat wah on his head.
So therefore it should be noted, to be afraid to express yourself in America defeats the whole purpose of the
freedom of expression. Needless to say , to have some command with tact, common decency is often well
regarded in many circles.

There is no drought in Florida and there is no need for a permit as long as the fire is contained. It would be no different than having an indoor or outdoor fireplace or barbecue grill. If he wants to burn Quran pages to cook some pork chops or some burgers and chicken and hot dogs he is well within his rights.

If the Government tries to interfere with his cookout, they will be in violation of the separation of Church and State. But when has anything stopped the Government from trying to take away our Constitutional Rights.

This is just another way to silence the die hard opposition to the terrorist thugs who are no doubt planning an attack, right now, that will make the Twin Towers look like kindergarten.

I don't think we should take the guy's rights away. If he wants to burn the Koran and people also want to, he has the Constitutional right to do it.

But I don't think that having the right to do something necessarily means it's a good, considerate, or sensible action. There have been many warnings of backlash from this event, backlash that could result in deaths of people who are not in Gainesville, FL - like, our soldiers. Islam has been distorted in such a way that there are some very scary Muslim extremists living in the world who would not think twice about attacking us for this. This makes the pastor a d-bag looking for publicity and cash and membership, without a care as to whether his actions have consequences. Real Christians accept people, not alienate them. This guy is just a bigoted hypocrite.

And I know what people will say; it's a free country, and Islam can and SHOULD be criticized as much as the rest of the religions, and if someone disagrees with it, they are within their rights to burn the Koran. I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment - Remember Draw Muhammed Day, in response to those episodes of South Park? I thought that was a smart and funny way to respectfully point out that Islam is just as susceptible to humor and criticism as the rest of the religions. However, that resulted in Pakistan banning Facebook... people lost a bit of their freedom in Pakistan because of something we organized in response to something silly about Islam.

I guess my point is that there is a valid reason why sometimes we can't say or do certain things about Islam. The Koran, which really IS a book of peace, has been messed with by some crazy and violent people, and now there IS backlash to be had, whether it is people losing THEIR freedom in other countries or us losing our lives here. We must tread with caution - the rest of the world doesn't understand Constitutional freedom, as seen with the quote somewhere before where the 18 year old kid from Kabul says the President must be endorsing this because it's not being stopped. He doesn't understand, because where he is, you can't do things your government doesn't agree with. They have been brainwashed as much as the 5 year olds holding "God Hates Fags" signs at soldier's funerals have been brainwashed, and the people who are in control in the Middle East, those who 'say' they are Muslim, are some of the best brainwashers.

Please understand that although it doesn't seem right, we have to be cautious of what we say and do about Islam and take baby steps to liberate the Middle East (in a bit of a different way than Iraq lol) and make sure Islam goes back to its real roots, or else suicide bombings never stop and it will continue to be unsafe for Islam to be criticized on the same level as any other religion in America.

So, the guy can go ahead and burn the Koran. But he is looking at an issue with lots of different angles very simplistically, and being very selfish because of it. It makes me sick that he would actually put people's lives in danger because he is too stupid to take off his blinders and realize that terrorism issues are WAY more complex than "Islam is crazy." He should stick with preaching to his church crowd rather than stirring up controversy across the world and putting our soldiers and civilians in needless danger.

If he's gonna do it, just do it rather than make a huge specticle about it. It seems like he wants the publicity more than anything. If someone steps in and stops it, I would be dissappointed because if it was a bible burning cerimony being held my islamics, no one would do anything. I love being wrong in cases like this.

It took, his actions being condemned by Clinton, his old church, People across the world, The Pope, and a visit from the FBI alerting him of the potential danger he is putting himself and his congregation in, but he finally decided to cancel it.

I said from the beginning, that burning these qurans would do nothing but cause anger, drama, controversy and further the divide between people, and that is exactly what happened. I am glad to say that I was wrong in saying that he will not back down.
