Having read up a bit on it since coming across this thread I'd hazard that doing something like this would actually be more difficult today because of the maturity of the technology compared with that of the seventies. Like DoomsdayRex pointed out in his quote it seems that this particular transmitter was particularly vulnerable to this type of attack.

And don't underestimate the ingenuity of students - especially engineering students www.dailymail.co.uk...
