In a bid to set parents' nerves at ease, a southwest suburban school district has become one of the first in the state to begin using GPS to track schoolchildren riding buses to and from school each day.

Palos Heights School District 128 had previously been using ZPass, a GPS technology provided by Seattle-based Zonar Systems, to track the buses. But now the district is outfitting students' backpacks with a luggage tag-sized unit that logs when the student steps on and off the bus.

Does anyone question the potentials of a system like this? Indoctrinate the children young to be comfortable with government tracking their every move!

How long until this is used to discipline a child, to punish a child for attending a club, a church or going into a part of town deemed unacceptable to TPTB.

Also, if you can track the children, you are logging their movements. I don't know about you, but this seems like step one. "Hey, this worked so well with the students, let's do this will all the citizens!".

Should any of us be shocked that this is happening in Illinois... President Obama's home governing state?

Give them an inch, they'll take a mile...I live in IL and certainly Chicago is the testing ground for a lot of policies around here. I've yet to see anything like this in my community, I'm against things like this. I care not that it makes things "safer". I can see where all this is headed.

Well considering everyone has cell phones with GPS tracking in it and no one seems to care why would you need to indoctrinate anyone? For that matter why would the Gov want to track everyone? I mean if you have an address and place of work people can find you and if you use a debit or credit card they can as well. What would be the point of tracking everyone further?

That is kind of the point... What IS the point of tracking everybody's movements?

Here is the thing... if a kid is abducted, do you really think the kidnapper will be stupid enough to keep the gps unit that is attached to the backpack functioning?

This serves no practical purpose other than to be BIG BROTHER and track the movements of everybody. Why WOULDN'T you start in the schools? I know of no more liberal and socialist of an evironment on the planet to institute this type of government tyranny into.

You see, the point of tracking everybody's movements is a signature need for every dictatorship. If a dictatorship did not keep proper track of its subjects, then they cannot predict their intentions nor their destinations.

EXACTLY!!!

Track movement = control
Track movementt within and without government educational facilities = control

Tracking all movements of the newly educated class = ability to isolate, capture and eliminate dissenters

Wait till these tracking devices are REQUIRED!

What if you don't want this strapped to your backpack? What if you just want to be free to go from place to place?

Seriously, how is this different from a house-arrest ankle bracelet?
