Hey everyone--

Thought I would post the link to a great astronomy blog for people in the central/eastern (Fayetteville area) North Carolina area because I haven't seen it anywhere on here before.

Backyard Universe blog

One of the best things he does is that he always posts when the ISS and shuttle will be passing over and observable from the Fayetteville area. If you have never seen the shuttle and ISS passing over (especially when they area about to dock or when the shuttle has just departed from the ISS), do yourself a favor and check it out; it is pretty awe inspiring.

Go here to find it in your area: Heaven Above hompage

He also posts interesting events such as: alignments, meteor showers, photos from his personal observatory in Stedman NC, links to interesting news and events in the astronomy world, as well as other things to watch for in the sky.

The blog is called Backyard Universe and it is written by Johnny Horne. Horne is a local astronomer who is probably the most famous/respected astronomer in NC. He is a contributing editor for Sky and Telescope magazine and the International Astronomical Union named asteroid 11132-Horne after him. The blog is hosted by the Fayetteville Observer newspaper, of which he is the photo editor and writes the astronomy column. He also hosts the monthly "Astronomy in the Park" free viewing sessions here in Fayetteville with several of his own telescopes.

Full Disclosure: I DO NOT know Johnny Horne. His blog has just been a great resource for me over the last few years and I thought I would let everyone else (especially those of you in NC) know about it.

No problem! Like I said, it is a great resource (for my local area) that I don't have to search twenty different websites to find out what is going on above me.
