“In the year 1090, there was founded in Persia the religious and military order of the Assassins, whose history is one of cruelty, barbarity, and murder, and for good reason: the members were confirmed users of hashish, or marihuana, and it is from the Arabs’ ‘hashashin’ that we have the English word ‘assassin.’”

As a retired federal law enforcement officer I have never agreed with the marijuana laws or the lies that preceeded them that made it illegal. There are just as many lies & myths spewed by those who made it illegal as there are those who use the truth to promote it's legality.

Those who voted on the legal fate of this plant never had the facts, but were dependent on information supplied by those who had a specific agenda to deceive lawmakers. You’ll see below that the very first federal vote to prohibit marijuana was based entirely on a documented lie on the floor of the Senate.

You’ll also see that the history of marijuana’s criminalization is filled with:

Racism
Fear
Protection of Corporate Profits
Yellow Journalism
Ignorant, Incompetent, and/or Corrupt Legislators
Personal Career Advancement and Greed
These are the actual reasons marijuana is illegal.

This is a good brief history of cannabis and one that should be sent to anyone you think needs to know the truth. Its time to change these laws that were passed by fools based on nothing more than lies and greed. With the propagation of the internet our fed gov and police are getting a little weary of citizens because we can now spread the truth rather than living lies backed up by law enforcement. Do the right thing, pass this on and get the truth out to everyone.

my hat is off to you, and BRAVO for the courage to speak the truth. it is time for old guard to change it's ways, if they would make it legal, there would be no tax it would all come for sale of drugs.

I dont agree with marijuana becoming legalised for a few incidents involving friends.

One ended up insane and trying to kill himself, and the other turned into a complete idiot, with no job or money. He ended up in jail for burglary.

Thats just my stance on the subject.

But hey guys, you could always move to the Netherlands right

I'm sorry but marijuana is not the problem.

Drug abuse and addiction has nothing to do with any particular substance.

Just like obesity (over eating) these are issues of self control that come from personal psychological issues.

People can eat fatty food, smoke ganja, or huff paint but physically trying to stop people from getting these substances will never end the problem.

Anything can be abused, we need to solve these issues with education and treatment, not machines guns and prisons.

Sorry to hear about your friends for sure. But just as you, I have had friends get killed after drinking and driving, drinking and falling off of a hotel balconey and two who died in a boating accident after drinking. it wasn't the alcohol's fault, it was the fault of those who made bad decisions, the alcohol was just a contributing factor.

Yeah, thats true

I wasnt completely blaming the drug for their situations, but it certainly was a contributing factor. Do you think that by legalising a susbstance, that these incidents would be reduced, or do you think they would still occur like incidents with alcohol (and stupidity in some cases
)?

I'm all for legalizing it. When my sister had cancer, we gave it to her. It helped with the "treatments" that the doctors put her through. It controlled her nausea and she was able to eat. She gained weight, instead of wasting away. It controlled the pain from both the chemo and radiation treatments. Watching her wasting away in agony was what made my friends and us give it to her. She is much better now. On another note:I have torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders. I use it for the pain. Otherwise, I would not be able to sleep because the pain would be too intense.

It won't reduce them and that would be a rather idotic prediction to make. In states like my home state of CO many people who never tried it went out and got seen by their Doctors and requested it. Some liked it then some didn't. Its a matter of personal responsibility as well as choice. I was shot on duty and after I retired I went to a Doctor there and I hold a medical card. I'll tell you now, I no longer buy Advil! but the government kept wanting to put me on Vicodin, Oxycontin and so on, just to keep me hooked and tap another source of money for their buddies who are the drug companys. I simply refused to go along because I knew better.

They'll be stupid folks for sure and thats a promise : ) But there will also be people who find relief and science proves that cannabis is safer than the crap drug companys sell. Its all synthetic and our body has a difficult time with things that are not natural.

I tell you, go sit a tub of margarine outside and sit a stick of real natural butter next to it. See which one the bugs go to. Thats pretty much a tell tale sign right there. But my fellow Americans consist of mainly sheeple when it comes to the drug war lies. Sadly for sure.

Sorry to hear about your friends, but I have to disagree. There are people who shouldn't engage in recreational substance usage (legal or otherwise) period, due to a predisposition (sometimes genetic, sometimes psychological in nature) to psychological addiction.

I don't believe the rest of us should have our right to the pursuit of happiness limited because a few people can't handle the responsibility that right entails.

And, yes, hemp/marijuana is illegal mostly due to the fact several large industries see it as a threat to their profit margins, not because the government is your friend and wants to protect you.

History shows us they WOULD be reduced.

Not only would it reduce violent crime but it would also reduce drug addiction and abuse because we could put the billions of dollars we spend on interdiction on education and treatment.

Or you could move to Saudi Arabia where freedom doesn't exist?

Nah, I'd rather have the freedom myself.
