This is two clips with statements and arguments, from both a lawyer and a cop, about why you should never talk to a cop without a lawyer. I've been trying to keep track of what the lawyer is saying, but I can't grasp everything he says because he's talking so fast
And luckily the cop exclaims he can't talk so fast in the beginning of his part of the lecture.

The format is very good, and it's a very democratic way of presenting information such as this, as both sides get to be heard.

Nonetheless, I've understood most of it and I found it highly informative and compelling, and I think there's a value in sharing it with you here on ATS. Although the clips require about 50 minutes of your day, it's well worth it and it gives you something to think about which can help you for the rest of your life. I hope you find it to be as informative as I did.

The lawyer

The cop

PS: I've searched around with numerous strings and I couldn't find this to be posted before, but please do close this down if it has.

This is one existing thread about these vids. There are probably others too.

talking to the cops is a very bad idea. they will say it will be worse for you if you don't talk but it won't. they are just trying to make things easier on themselves. don't let it happen!

You know. I've spoken with cops alot.
I've always been courteous and respectful.
and i've been treated that way back.

1 time did I have a cop talk to me in a belligerent manner.
I kept my calm and spoke back in a normal tone of voice. and he let me go.

I don't know why people are having so many issues with the police.

MOST cops are good and on OUR side.
but the FEW bad ones we need to watch out for .
if more then just a few minutes a lawyer IS a good idea

First of all in the UK people have issues with the police because of the type of person that has emerged as a policeman/woman in the last 15 years. The police are no longer self-thinking moral guardians... they are young fresh faced boys with little education (A levels wow!), have clearly been bullied and have no idea on morals, ethics, values and fair play. They are in short, little sods who need to grow up.

Regarding the OP... It is of major importance that when going down to the station, voluntary or under arrest, that you either get a duty lawyer present or pay for your own. In the modern world a copper has to hit targets, this goes some way to explaining why they are such sh*ts. So when a rozzer gets you in the interview room they want a conviction, even if they know you are guilty and even if the crime is something very very minor.

A lawyer knows the tricks they use and will undoubtabley save stress and pain in the long run.

I once represented myself and it was HARDCORE. There was no conviction in the end but I think I was very lucky and if I had to do it all again I'd get myself a lawyer/soliciter.

One has to realize that the Police deal with this business day in and day out AND are rewarded by the number of people they arrest and eventually prosecute.

That's the business they are in.

The reason why you shouldn't talk to the police is that they understand how the system works towards their objectives, which is to arrest and eventually prosecute people.

Its similar to talking to any other professional.
You don't question what your Doctor tells you, for he is more knowledgeable on the subject of medicine.

Or even your Mechanic explaining the best way in which to repair your car, for he also knows more about the subject matter than you do.

The reason why you shouldn't speak to the Police is due to the simple fact that everything you say will be used against your case in a court of law but on the contrary, that same information CANNOT be used to your benefit and will be deemed as Hearsay by the Judge in the same court of Law.

This is the reality of our legal system.

The Lawyer even points out that in 25% of the DNA Exoneration cases, innocent defendants made incriminating statements leading to their own convictions !

This is the entire purpose of the 5th Amendment who's basic function is to protect innocent men who otherwise might be ensnared by ambiguous circumstances.

Are you nuts?!!!!!!!! I would NEVER hire a lwayer, this is BS and it is being done so you submit to the authorities in the proper way so they have COMPLETE CONTROL over you.

NEVER HIRE A LAWYER, they are british agents, the work FOR the government and NOT for the people. BAR is the British Accredited Registry.

Talk to the County Sheriff and NEVER give them a name, it implies corporate title and then THEY have jurisdiction.

No need to learn the law just know what to say and what NOT to say, NEVER give them a name, you are a SOVEREIGN and that is all they need to know.

Because the cops know the law more then you (unless educated in field of law) and a lawyer knows the law more then the cops. It is a business first.

A money circle. Break law get caught bail$$$. Make bail need lawyer$$$. No bail $$$ or lawyer$$$ then you go to jail accumulating massive funds $$$ for you presence within jail and court procedures all paid by the taxpayers$$$. You go to trial no $$$ then you are sentenced to a prison system (tax payer) that foots you bill$$$ for shelter-food-clothing-education-electricity usage-waterusage-gas usage. This is why many who become institutionalized dont seem bothered they have everything payed for. And rationalize not dealing with these stressful everyday situations over having companionship with a woman and family..SAD

Simple, anything you say CAN AND WILL be used against you in a court of law.
But good vids anyway, I saw these awhile back.

I used to help cops all the time. I lived in an absurdly high-crime area. Bodies in the front yard were routine. I wanted it all to stop so I would give the cops all sorts of details and specifics about everything I witnessed.

Lo and behold after a couple of years of being the helpful neighborhood eye I became the subject of cop harassment. Getting stopped driving, cycling, walking, getting phone calls at all hours, knocks on the door at all hours, they'd show up at my work, even took me in a couple of times.

It went on like this for years despite my requests they stop and even despite having moved several states away.

Finally I just got a lawyer and had the lawyer talk to them whenever they tried to contact me. They tried once, the lawyer talked to them, and they havent tried contacting me since.

The lesson I learned is that you should never talk to cops. Dont even ask one on the street for directions. At their discretion they can make your life a living hell for no reason whatsoever.

I should add that in the "good" years when I was essentially selling my soul to give them information they never once solved any of the local crimes or caught any of the suspects. Entirely useless. As if they never had any intention of catching anyone to begin with.

most police officers grew up getting picked on and decided i'm going to become a law enforcement officer so i can write these people tickets and harass them. how petty is that? not all police officers got into law enforcement for good reasons. not all of these men are intelligent and many of them don't even know most laws. i have been harassed for things that were completely legal and not covered by any law, or even at times for absolutely no reason except i was walking at night in my neighborhood. my suggestion is that if you are doing something illegal then maybe you just shouldn't stop when you see those lights. hey, i would rather get fleeing and alluding than a drug charge. just some food for thought.

I agree. I love the Forensic Files, and other shows like the First 48 that show cops interrogating people, and what I have learned from watching countless interrogations is..............................get a lawyer. Right off the bat. Whether you are innocent or guilty. Its just safer for in case they do not find the real perpetrator and they need someone to pin it on. You never know if the cops are good at what they do. And they just want to build a case. If they can make it work against you, they will, whether you are innocent or not.

Even if you are guilty, and want to confess, get a lawyer first, who can use your potential confession to bargain with them. If you confess on your own, you will not "get a break." The cops dont make that decision. You need a lawyer to bargain for that with the prosecutors.

I would also recommend never letting them search your car or home without a warrant either. And thats just on principle. If we want to keep the freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, we need to exercise it.
