Visioneers. Are YOU about to explode?

I watched this movie a few days ago, and realised how well it fit into the ATS way of thinking. I did a search, and it turned up no results. It stars Zach Galifianakis, one of my favorite comedians. I was a fan of his stand-up before his most recent fame with movies such as the Hangover.

This movie makes you realise that this is where our society is headed. Dumbed down Americans, living the corporate dream. They want to keep you that way, exempt from free will, and the power to dream. It's kind of a dark comedy, but makes you look at life in a more humorous way, because for many americans, it will hit close to home.

In a dystopian near-future, the largest business in the history of mankind, Jeffers Corporation, controls the United States. The corporation and its leader, Mr. Jeffers, got that way thanks to their strict philosophy of mindless productivity. Jeffers teaches that productivity equals happiness, and the business logo, a middle finger, is the standard greeting in society.

George Washington Winsterhammerman, descendant of George Washington, is a Level Three employee at the Jeffers Corporation. He has an emotionally distant wife and a son who never leaves his room.

George is told one morning that one of his coworkers has literally exploded. That night the news announced that over 100,000 other people have also done so. They state that the victims of the explosions "suffered from dreams." He visits a number of doctors and reveals that he has also been suffering from dreams and is afraid he is going to explode. The doctor tells him that, though they do not yet know the connection between dreams and exploding, dreams are unstable and dangerous. He begins to exhibit other symptoms that are consistent with the other explosion victims, including binge eating and impotence.

George lives a comfortable yet completely uneventful life, and when he starts having dreams in which he’s the first president of the United States, his doctor informs him that they could be signs of impending explosion. Later, as the dreams become more frequent and his co-workers continue to detonate, George is prompted to reevaluate his mundane existence

I loved the part at the end where they gave that "standard greeting / goodbye". Hilarious!

Thank you for sharing that with me, really brings a good laugh.

I always love movies depicting a Dystopian future, as they tend to give great messages about politics and society overall.

And I will add this to my "must see" list. TYVM for sharing. I'll definitely check this one out.

And yes this does go right up the ATS alley. Whoever wrote it was very clever I think.

I'm glad at least one persone enjoyed it as much as I did. ATS is so uptight and full of fear mongering, everybody needs a little humour from time to time. It's sad that this movie failed at film festivals, and never really made it mainstream. I guess it wasn't slapstick enough for audiences these days. It requires thinking, and now days, people require somebody to get hit in the groin, or something of the like for it to be a cult hit.

I figured that since this fit in so well, that I would hope to get this movie to an audience that would actually appreciate it. I wish more like this would be made. It's available on Netflix for those of you who don't believe that all movies are there to brainwash you.
