Night Vodka Sales To Be Banned In Moscow

www.foxnews.com

Night sales of vodka and other types of strong alcohol are to be banned in Moscow in a bid to tackle the capital's growing alcohol problem.

A new minimum price for spirits is also to be introduced to stop the sale of cut-price black market booze.

Mayor Yuri Luzhkov is stopping shops selling drink containing more than 15% alcohol between 10pm and 10am.

Whoa!!! Now how is this going to be received? Those mugs love their vodka (spirits) and not being able to buy any all night is going to throw some folks into a tizzy. So will they just stock up more before 10PM?

You guys remember when Boris Yeltsin used to show up at press conferences completely smashed? My guess is that if he were still in power this would not be happening!!

Ironic. Under Soviet rule, they created generations of alcoholics by making booze cheap and plentiful so that the people could use it to numb themselves against the drudgeries of their lives and to keep the masses "happy" and controllable, and now they're restricting it. It's going to take generations to reverse this trend.

Here's an interesting discussion about this from last year www.nytimes.com...

That is the first plausible theory I have heard regarding the onset of WW111...

I remember when I first visited a certain region in Washington State...you can't buy spirits at a grocery store; only in a special store designed for the sale of such and only between business hours during the week (closed on Sundays)...

I was traumatized!!

WHOA there Ivan

They had better have 10,000 robo cops or genetically perfect soldiers to enforce this one!

This will never work, all you will have is a more accommodating underground supply, guys selling from car boots (trunks) a few select spots per night and the money would be great

I hope someone takes note of crime statistics and crime related violence after this happens. Prohibition of any kind or degree tends to lead to an increase in both. I wonder if government will attempt to claim its the vodka that does it and not prohibition. Works for Cannabis and worked for alcohol in the states once upon a time.

Cheers

Everyone will just stock up before 10pm

It's not that hard to adjust. I lived in a state with a stupid Sunday ban on alcohol. Everyone just bought on Saturday.
