Exactly, FreeMason, although it just looked like a still to me & I didn't read anything into it. When I read the accompanying post, I saw what it could have been MEANT to convey, but since the poster didn't make any qualifying statement of his/her own about it, I took it as humour.

OK, I think I'll now search out ATS discussions on the Patriot Act, in the light of what it says & how it can be interpreted. Until I do that, there's little chance of me participating in this topic.

I would actually recommend you read the actual document instead of getting interpretations of it from other people. Read it and decide what you think its all about, also remember its in the form of legalese, words may be different than they appear.

Ah, Jamuhn, I was relying on there being a link to the origial document being present in the discussions in the inimitable way of ATS!

However, should this not be the case, I will certainly take your advice. Anyway, there would have to be a really glaring anomaly in it before I would venture to post an opinion.

The article is far from accurate. Bush does not have both sides of congress, only the majority is Republican. That doesn't mean that the majority agree with him, and it doesn't mean that he compares to Hitler.

The Supreme Court is in no way acting as his "quintet".

While I do see inherent dangers in the Patriot Acts, no clear example of actual danger has been shown - to date.

The author of the letter, Herr Moellers, claims that his father was a Nazi soldier, and then says the parallels between present day America and Germany in the '30's is scaring him. Because his father was a soldier I'm supposed to believe this man has some remarkable insight? If his father was a Nazi soldier, how old was Herr Moellers in the 30's?

There is more parallel between present day Germany and the old Germany, such as the rise in anti-semitism, than this attempted correlation between America today and Germany then. It seems tha tmany have a hard time accepting the fact that America now has recognized the enemy has declared war and that she must defend herself. I dare say that some of our former allies are so jealous of us and resent us so badly that they would actually like to see us get beaten by the enemy. Well, other than their nations' gain at dealing under the table with our enemy. Their financial gain seems to be more important than our survival.

To answer your request for people to read the article and tell you what they think - I've read the article, realize it is driven by political agenda, and think nothing of it.

June 18, 2004It is just one lie after another, one cover-up after another, one egregious tromping of our Constitution after another, and yet almost half the population supports the Bush Regime. Unfortunately, that half is also strongly represented in the legislative branch of our government. This means that while the exposes, and atrocities, and lies continue to dance across the headlines, legislation continues to be put forward and passed that cements the travesty of the current regime's vision.
www.onlinejournal.com...

IMHO those that are willing to give up their birthright are not patriots but are the lowest form of coward that defame the flag, the constitution and everything that is truely american. I am insulted that so many of my fellow citizens are so easily cowed into surrendering the rights that our ancestors paid for in blood. And quite frankly I do not know how those that support this rape of our rights can look at themselves in the mirror each morning. Please do not respond with righteous indignation, righteous indignation is reserved for the righteous and you surely are not that. I pity that you can not see your shame.

God save america...
