I was thinking while torturing my cats with a red laser light. What if that is what the UFO's are doing to us.

(Alien #1) "Hey Buggarub look at all those people that have come here to see tonights show!"
(Alien #2)"Yeah, it's going to be fun tonight! They just can't help themselves can they?"

We find it amusing when cats do it. Why wouldn't another intelligent race think it's funny when another "intelligent" race does it?

Tell me what you guys think. Thanks!!!^_^

erm.......... no, sorry but teasing your pet cat is slightly different to creating super tech, travelling across the universe!!.

i really doubt they would fly all the way here just to tease us with a light show, i apply the same logic to crop circles!.

thanks

What if they are stationed here to study us? They wouldn't have to travel very far. And even we travel quite far to visit the zoo! Like I said it's just a thought.

who says there they are flying? Could as the OP states, just a projection. So to project something that looks very sophisticated is not that hard

I hadn't quite thought of it that way but very good point. It could be projections.
Thanks ^_^

well, we can fantasize and theorise all day long and keep moving the goalposts to fit but it doesn't make it true.

seriously, look at things logically, if we created the tech to enable us to travel the universe and discovered a planet of intelligent civilised beings then would we keep spending a fortune sending tons of ships to this place just to put on a light show, create meaningless crop circles that they couldn't understand or assault their garden furniture?.

i doubt it very much and i doubt they would either !.

thanks

I don't know ... give 4chan another few thousand years of evolution and we could very well reach that noble stage of toying with other races for the luls???

If we had the ability for a very long time and it was easy and cost next to nothing I think we would. I mean look at the amusement that we get from teasing our pets and each other. I think it is an indefinite possiblity. I don't mean all encounters. I think it is possible that some are just something to amuse them or to see how we react to the event. Almost a test if you will.

like i already said, teasing pets and each other just doesn't compare to all the work, money and time that would go into travelling to another inhabited planet, and again you just changed the goalposts by basically saying "yeah but what if it was cheap", you can add ifs and buts all day long but still it doesn't stand up logically.

thanks

Why? What makes it different?

Laser technology is cutting edge, and is researched and designed for extremely important uses from medicine to weaponry to data storage. Yet, the most common and mass produced variety is the little pointer? Dangerous to retinas and aggravating to cats (and dogs).

So, why would it be any different for any super tech from another species? Plus, who is to say that it requires much effort? Once the super-tech is created, it may be a very simple matter of a wormhole or dimensional shift. There may be no effort to it at all!

Nope, although I doubt that 99.9% of the sightings are anything beyond our natural world, there is that 0.1% that may be real, and I see no reason why it couldn't be an advanced species just messing with us the way we do pets, or cattle, or insects.

Magnifying glass burning ants, laser pointer bugging cats, cow-tipping, or wildlife tagging. Any and all of that is a possiblity with us as the subject instead of the aggressor.

It does stand up logically. Millions of dollars and decades of research went into laser technology, and what was the first cheap and mass produced product????? Laser pointers!

Plus, see my earlier post, there is no reason to assume the super-tech would be cost prohibitive in resources or economy. Since we don't understand the tech, we just don't know. It might be very simple in their terms.

I like how your mind works!

Although I never felt like I was torturing my cats with the lazer pen, more playing with them.

Maybe these higher beings are just playing with us. All I know is my cats eventually got hold of the laser pen, and now I don't know where it is.

I've been having this exact same thought! I've noticed while playing with laser pointers with cats that the point will appear, from their perspective, to disappear when there's an interloping object like a table. I try my best to keep it going continuously, but it always arrives on the nearest opaque two-dimensional plane; even if they're not toying with us, the laser pointer could be a great metaphor for imagining four dimensional objects as they intersect our three-dimensional existence. If you think that aliens are 4-d beings, anyway.

(Yes yes time is the fourth dimension don't worry about that.)

Mlaybe the species at large is indifferent to us, or hasn't gotten around to doing what they want with us yet, but a few pranksters or goofs -- think kids with magnifying glasses near anthills -- think we're hilarious. Or maybe it's part of an experiment, to see how we react; anthropology of alien species, perhaps to get an insight into their own psychology or see what we're like or who KNOWS. There are any number of reasons that this could be true; whether it is or not, we have no way of knowing yet. But it's plausible.

I call it torture because they know something is going on, they just can't figure out what. They see me with a light and they see the light on the ground. Yet they can't quite figure out how I am doing it and are still compelled to look. I think it is the curious nature that keeps them focused. Just as we are indelibly curious. It has been said that this is why we humans enjoy cat company.

erm, no, again it just doesn't compare, we created lasers and found a mass market for a small version and sell it to ourselves and make money which is a return on the original investment!. travelling to another planet and doing nothing but tease another race makes no logical sense whatsoever, it doesn't create a return on investment or achieve anything whatsoever, how do you know they wouldn't just blow you out of the sky?.

thanks

Unless it cracks you up. Playing with a laser pointer with a cat doesn't create a return on investment either; it just cracks us up. You're assuming that the space-faring race is uniform in its desires and motives and actions, whereas it's entirely possible this is just a few weirdos who like to mess with the heads of lesser beings. You know, like people who play with cats with laser pointers.

Heck, in hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, the aliens who abduct humans are just rich frat boys. It's like cow-tipping. This is not an ENTIRELY new idea, that the visiting aliens want to mess with us.

Again, I ask why? You are making a whole lot of assumptions. You are assuming that it takes a lot of travelling and investment. You are assuming that it is not some scaled down version sold in their world for some purpose and annoying us with it is just an added entertaining usage. You are assuming that their logic is the same as ours.

Our lasers were much hyped and theorized and tested. Thousands of grants, and millions of dollars went into their development. They were beyond our capability until just a few decades ago, and now they are commonplace from DVD players to surgeries to guidance systems to computer storage. 50 years ago, they were only theory!

If we can spend 1000 years working up to developing something with so many uses. And then in less than 50 years we can trivialize it to a cat toy. Why can't some other species do the same thing with a dimensional shifting device, or an interstellar communication device? Why is it illogical?

Dude,

I think you need to stop torturing your cat.....

You ever seen that movie were the guy gets a new cat, turns out this isn’t just a cat, this cat is a extraterrestrial who can do all this wired stuff. Now what if that movie was on to something and all cats are really ET’s and one day a UFO catches you torturing your little kitten. What if they get really annoyed about this and beam you up for a little anal probing.

Then again, they might not even exist. I mean if they are super intelligent then why would they get their kicks by effectively driving down to Earth and going “Oi, you, humanoid, LOOK AT MY FLASHING LIGHTS, LOOK AT THEM!”. No i don’t think that’s going to happen.

you do realise how long it would take to travel from the nearest inhabitable planet?. and do you still think they would travel all that way and take all that time just to tease us?.but im sure you will reply with something along the lines of "yeah but what if they've created tech that can negate all known laws of physics" and then there will just be no point me answering again.

again i say teasing a cat on our own planet with something such as a laser simply does not compare to making an extremely long and expensive flight across the universe!. a cat might scratch or bite you, an intelligent race might kill you for teasing it!.

thanks
