The phrase "manifest destiny," was coined by New York journalist John O'Sullivan in 1845, when he wrote that "it was the nation's manifest
destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the continent which Providence has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty
and federated self-government entrusted to us."
During our (Canada's) 2004 election campain the main focus has been to tear down the Liberal (similar to Democrats) government over a
sponsorship scandal.
The investigation so far has never laid blame on anyone save for a patsy who is now suing the government for wrongful dismissal.
Stephan Harper our Consevative (similar to Republicans) candidate wrote the Wall Street
Journal condeming our Liberal government for not joining the
war on Iraq.
His platform includes an increase in defence spending into the
billions
My theory is as follows
1) With the help of the US goverment the Conservatives created the sponsorship scandal in order to deconstruct the Liberal foundation in Canada
2) The obvious buddy buddy relationship between Harper and George W takes us one step closer to becoming the fifty first state.
3) The US would like nothing more than to absorb Canada and it's huge
oil reserves (this
doesn't even take into account our lumber and freshwater)
4) US missle and defence testing has long been carried out on Canadian soil, for the US to gain sovereignty over Canada would give them not only the
largest country in the world (in area) to test on but also the income from selling the natural resources to fund it.
A quick overview of Canadian politics. We are not a republic as is the US. We vote for a party of political thought and the leader of that party
becomes our Prime Minister.
We have three main parties, the currently ruling Liberals, middle of the road slightly to the left.
The New Democrats, a left wing socialist based party.
And in the right corner we have the Conservatives. This party is of particular interest. Originally known as the
Progressive Conservatives,
they recently absorbed an even more right wing party known as the Alliance Party and subsequently dropped the Progressive from the party title.
A qualifier: I am not anti-American by any means so please don't interpret this post as such.
Simply stated I am a proud Canadian, no different than the way Americans or Brits are for their homeland.
