New Cancer Technology: Photodynamic Cancer Therapy

Further to my previous threads pertaining to some of the new medical technologies with which I am closely involved.....

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an extremely interesting new cancer technology.

PDT is a medical treatment for some types of cancer, presently used for therapy in head & neck lesions.

PDT uses ”a combination of laser light of a specific wavelength, oxygen & a light-sensitive drug to destroy cancer cells”.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

The light-sensitive drug (the photosensitizing agent) is injected into the bloodstream and is taken up by the cells throughout the body. The drug gathers preferentially in cancer cells, but is not activated until exposed to laser light of the appropriate wavelength. When a laser is shone onto the cancer, the drug is triggered to interact with oxygen and form a transitory substance, known as singlet oxygen, which then destroys the cancer cells.

I have also been told “strictly off the record” that PDT can be used as an extremely effective means of removing fat cells!

Another interesting cancer treatment thread.

To keep myself from "PWNING" myself again as per your last cancer thread i read every link (and even broke out the medical terminology book a few times)

I wonder how long until this becomes a more widespread means of treatment?

I'm not really sure.

I guess it depends what one means by "widespread"......it is already being used on many, many patients. I am hoping to establish a first "key opinion leader" reference site during the first half of 2011.

Between now & then, I will be delving more into the clinical & market potential of this technology.

I will post more info as it becomes available.

As far as widespread i meant used as a more commonplace procedure.

Its seems to me that its much safer than chemotherapy for instance

Well, it does appear to have a more specific & therefore perhaps a safer application in it's active "excited" form than a more systemic application of a "conventional" chemotherapy agent.

Funny how i read about all these cancer treatments and cures yet i never actually hear about them in the MSM or in the hospitals. Ah well...

If you are refering to the technologies with which I'm involved & have been posting about.....

Those technologies are very new & not yet widespread.

It is typically only leading Dr's that are using such technology at this point in time.

Usage will become more widespread.
