Nah nahnah nah nah ... we've also got fireballs over Cape Town!!

A large ball of fire lit up the night sky somewhere over Cape Town between 10pm and 11pm on Monday, a number of witnesses say.

Was it a UFO? Well... it was probably "just a piece of rock that fell through the sky", according to Dr Enrico Olivier of the South African Astronomical Observatory.

I guess there's nothing too sinister here but maybe someone else can give another spin on it?

I did a bit more snooping and found this article also ... not much different but very short and abrupt ... and I find myself wondering why.

Do you know if any video was caught of this? I hope so, like the one in Midrand (between Pretoria and Johannesburg) last year. My folks were on the N1 highway and actually saw it live. Lucky b**tards!

get into your CAR, take out your cheap HD camera film the spot where the object crashed come to youtube and post the results

Are you mad? He is in Durban, and this happened in Cape Town. Do you have any idea how far apart the two are from one another? Obviously not. Here is map for you to see.

Yep ... I guess this why I thought to make the post and give it a slight tongue in cheek title. I too think that these thing occur too often ... or rather, are too often (ready always) explained away in short, abrupt press releases.

Of course, I too thinks its a bit boring if there are no photo's or vids ... but unless the thing takes a long time to traverse the visible sky, its near impossible to grab a camera in time ... even if you do have your mobile phone in your pocket.

By the time one has gotten over the WOW! influence of witnessing such and event, its often too late to take a photo. I didn't witness this one myself but my sister has seen similar stuff and nobody can tell her any different than the UFO she and our cousin saw ... alas, again no camera was present to take a snappy.

I just like to watch the news and sometimes speculate about what they are not telling us.
