Air Force Vs. Navy

Ok now I plan on joining the armed forces in a few years for reasons such as college money, traveling the world and stuff like that. I've narrowed it down to the Air Force or the Navy do to the fact that I dont like the idea of getting shot by the guy selling fish at the market while I'm in the middle of some war like Iraq. So I would like to now which force should I join. Please include practical reasons instead of biased traditional opinions.

If you like to travel and be on a boat, obviosy the Navy is the place to go.

If you want a higher standard of livig (better facilities, etc.) the Air Force would be the better choice.

The is no clearly "better" service, it depends on what you're looking for.

navy
pros : less danger , good pay,chance 2 c the world

cons: if ur sea sick thats gona be hellish , strong chance of getting wet (infact its a certanty) ,can be boreing,very little chance of makeing a stable relationship

airforce:
pros: not as much danger but still a bit of danger .good pay,you get to play with big fast planes

cons:if ur pilot then you might get shot down and mostly when ur shot down your in bad teritory and they tend to like captureing pilots

I would investigate which programs/training you are qualified to enter. Each service, and their associated training programs, may have a distinct obligation period.

Secondly, I would investigate how quickly you can advance in rank within each service specialty.

And, finally, (just in case you decide not make military service a career) I would look at how prepared you would be to transfer into civilian life after the end of your obligation.

I would tell you to go to the air force because if you don't want to die it has the smallest percentage of its members dying out of all the other services. And you get to go supersonic I think special forces are the best though that's why im joining them but air force is kool too.

Absolutly check to see if there are any special programs you may qualify for. When I went in the Navy I went in under the AE (Advanced Electronics) I came out of boot camp as an E-4. The rating I went into FTM (Fire Control Missle) worked out nice for me. Out of 6 years, what I had to sign up for, I have a total of 14 days sea duty. I was stationed at weapons stations or in school the rest of the time.

It really does depend on what programs you can qualify for, but which ever one, GET IT IN WRITING, just because the recruiter says something it doesn't mean a thing unless IT'S IN WRITING.

One thing to remember is that depending on the ship, living quarters can be.....shall we say a little tight some times. Hot Racks.

Exactly Duke it all depends on programs and what you qualify for I had two friends that entered the service at the same time both wanted to be pilots. One now is an ordinance officer " I think thats the right title" on an aircraft carrier. The one that went to the USAF is an MP.None are pilots.

Currently, I am in the Navy. I have many friends in the Air Force. While each have there own upsides, they also have many downsides. No matter where you go, the base pay is the same. The Navy has more opportunities for you to get bonuses, and special pay. Right now, with all my special pays and allowances, I make almost twice my base pay. But, I am in Submarines. Harder job, more money. While people say that the Air Force has nicer facilities, thats not really the truth. The Navy has spent MILLIONS of dollars on renovating and constructing new buildings. But, hey thats just whats going on now. Also, the Navy has more airplanes than the Air Force (Figure that one out). Also, the Navy has jobs where you never go out to sea, if thats what you are afraid of. Anyways, thats enough of me recruiting right now.

It all sux the same, you need to figure out what job you want to do first then figure out the branch of service. By the way i am in the Navy and work for Naval Special Warfare Group 3.

but why join the navy and not go to sea? godforbid my air force ass ever joined the navy i would like to be out at sea.

The job is very important... Obviously, if you are in it for the college money, then you will not be an officer on joining. So, you can rule out being a pilot or Captain of a ship.

Next, do you want to stay forever in the Military or this something short-term for experiece and school. Next, what do you want to be whether you stay in or leave? What jobs do you qualify for? If you want to travel constantly, then maybe the Navy on a ship. If you want to live for a few years in one place, then the AirForce may be best. You will also want to think about where you want to live. If you like Germany, then try to become a german linguist, you will more than likely be sent to Germany. But, you could also pick just the location overseas, but then your job it picked for you.

Remeber, it all comes down to what you want to do. If you become a Military Police, you will probably have a higher chance of being in Iraq no matter what service. Anyway, no matter what job, all services are deployed in Iraq. Think about what you are interested, then look up jobs on each service. Planning will pay off alot in the long run. Never let the recruiter TALK you into something. They must meet quotas and you must remember that everything must be written down in advance.

What do you want to do long term? You talked about college, What is your intended major? These are important questions to answer before you look into any service. If you want a service compatable career, such as an avionics specialist on aircraft, the military will put you through college for free while you are on active duty. I had a bother who went though school to learn to repair aircraft with all expenses payed and a weekly check while he was in training, because he enlisted in the Air Force as a mantaince tech. If you do it right, you can leave the service with a free college degree and veterans benefits. Decide on you goals, write them down, and then take them with when you talk to a recruter. Don't be afraid to approach them and say "I have this set of goals for my life... how can your service help me achieve them?" By presenting yourself as a goal oriented person, you can get help with almost anything, if you ask the right questions. As a boy I looked into Military service, but I'm not eligible to serve becaues I have a Physical Disability. Good Luck!

Seriously, though, to answer your question, I'd definitely say go Navy. Forget about the chair force. The navy's badass and they go to all the best spots. You'll look great in the dress whites, too.

air force all the way its less dangerous and you get to have more fun

You could join the navy, get seasick, hit your head a lot, live in crampped quarters, but you can sea the world (hehe) but the airforce, you have great living areas, dont have to worry about over shooting runway as often (if pilot) you can hang out with your buddies in the rec areas, foods probably better... i dont like the navy more anyway, because the have the F-14

actually the navy has very large liveing quarters.
when i was bristol they had bigger quarters than the RAF barracks at gannet

well you cant enlist and say i wanna be a pilot. you have to be an officer to be a pilot.

look at it this way, you really wana be called seaman for most of your enlistment? and chair force? im insulted! the chair force does more than the navy and most of the jobs in the NAVY have you sit in chairs. chair force my ass! im in th air force and i dont see a chair for 8 hours a day! and if you wanna stencil your name to the ass of your underware be my guest, and be on a ship with 6000 other men be my guest. i know there are women on ships now a days, but you could go your whole deployment with out seeing one. navy has noting on the AIR FORCE. air force has better pilots cause they get to train aginst actual air craft the bad guys use. evvery year the Luftwaffe brings some of their mig-29 to our RED FLAG war games and they actualy get to engage them, not some f-18 in "agressor colors." acutal MiGs!
