Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's president, has threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States if US-allied Colombia launches a military attack against his country.

Venezuela supplies a significant percentage of oil in the US. This could spike us oil prices. While much attention gets focused on the middle east, the US is actually far more dependent on oil from South America.

Columbia and Venezuela have had some diplomatic tensions, lately. Columbia has been battling FARC, a rebel group, with substantial US aid. They now accuse of Venezuela of assisting.

They don't export that much oil to the U.S. as far as I can tell. Source

The more interesting thing here might be...what the hell...Colombia's going to go to war against Venezuela?! They think the U.S. is going to attack Venezuela by proxy?

Maybe this is Venezuela's first reference to the troops massing close to both countries in Costa Rica. I bet it's related. Been watching for them to mention it, but so far haven't caught anything.
