Here we go again, some lady is claiming her cat gave brith to a puppy after several days of labor. These stories seem to pop up again every few years.

Georgian cat gives birth to puppy

A cat in the eastern village of Georgia has given birth to a puppy, Georgian media reported Friday. The owner said the cat was in labor for several days before bearing a pup that has its mom’s ears and tail.

The story, which showed the cat breastfeeding her healthy pup, received substantial coverage on Georgian television. Yet zoologists have been unable to provide a definite explanation for the incident or disprove it. They have, however, suggested that radiation could be a possible cause.

Ok, they say the pup has its mom's ears and tail but, I'm just not seeing it.

What do you folks think; real, fraud or maybe a sign of the coming apocalypse?

Two possibilities:

1) It's a cat, just deformed (i.e. the radiation idea)

2) It's a puppy, born of a dog, but the cat has taken to rearing it. Cross-species adoption of newborns, especially by females who have their own newborns is not at all uncommon. The mothering instinct is very strong and can extend even to animals from other species.

There are even well documented cases of humans being raised by wild animals, usually wolves or wild dogs. Such human children are known as "feral children," a topic I'm rather interested in, currently. I believe there have been a few threads here about feral children.

The Ghostbusters called it perfectly!

What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor. Real wrath of God type stuff! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, and volcanos! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

Actually, the lady is trying to pull a fast one.

It's probably just a weird looking cat or as mentioned above the cat adopted a puppy. The cat's own kitten may have died and then it found the puppy soon after. There have been stranger tales of cross species adoption including one case of a lioness adopting a baby antelope.

Most likely a case of crazy cat lady syndrome. Either that or the Apocalypse...

Ok, obviously I don't think that cat gave birth to puppy. Dogs have 78 chromosomes and cats have 38, which would make it impossible to breed.

But I found something funny, at least IMO.

www.chinadaily.com.cn...

I hope it was intended as a hoax. It's not puppy that looks like kitten, it's just kitten. And those experts they mention... That must be the great example of usage of weasel words.

Experts say a gene mutation contributed to the aberrance.

It's funny how they can always find some scientist to comment with some off the wall theory explaining how these things can happen.

Reminds me of the story of the black couple that had a white baby; an obvious case of infidelity but, the scientists came up with a wild genetics theory to explain the whole thing.

Are scientists really that gullible or are they just trying to get their 10 seconds of fame by producing hypotheses to support these obvious hoaxes?

Edit to add: I haven't found any evidence that this has been officially debunked yet.

Hopefully someone will test a blood sample from the "cat-dog" to find out the truth like the last time someone tried to pull this stunt.

I wonder if anyone is even bothering to try?

Crossbreeding a dog and a cat isn't possible. Sorry but this belongs in the hoax forum. You'd have better luck crossbreeding a human with a german shepard. The genetic differences are too vast to bridge.

I agree. Just cross species adoption. I had a cat when I was a child that would steal any infant within a block. Dog, cat, chicken, she really didnt care. But it was quite pain getting all those infants back to their proper homes.

I've got no problem if this story ends up in the hoax forum. I would just like to see someone dig up the evidence to PROVE that this is a hoax before this one gets moved.

I've been looking for updates to this story but, have only run into The exact same story with the exact same wording from every source imaginable. :bnghd:

If you can find the evidence to prove this is a hoax, by all means post it here. I will be the first to alert the mods to move this thread to the hoax forum.

In the mean time, the scientists speculate that it may be a kitten affected by radiation that only LOOKS like a puppy.

One possibility we can cancel out is that this cat really gave birth to a dog. Its simply IMPOSSIBLE.

And it's defiantly NOT a weird looking kitten. Lots of dog breeds have pointed ears and long tails. I can tell you right now, my cat just gave birth to a littler of kittens, and there is no similarities whatsoever between those kittens and that puppy. Pictures.

Puppy

Kitten.

Note the difference between the shapes of the head, nose, and overall size. You know the puppy is younger than the kitten because it's eyes are still closed, yet it is still bigger than the kitten! There is no possible way you can confuse a kitten with a puppy.

In conclusion, this is most likely a cat who recently had a litter of kittens and decided to adopt this puppy.
