Alot of talk about how you can stop working and start collecting government checks and beat the system but honestly, do you really want to be dependent on some government check every month which will cap the amount of money you will make in a year? what about buying a new flat screen with 3d glasses and play super mario sunshine 2 on it? what about going out with your friends having beers and shots every now and then? Do you really want to cap the amount of money you make a year? Why not take advantage of this country and the mass of people that live here and create something unique amazing and making millions of dollars ? Why not just move out of here and live in france where you could do this 2050250 million times easier ? you guys are cowards..

no matter where you go its not that easy, and honestly i'd love to be rich and out of the system if i wernt sick myself (which i wont go into) and getting money from the government isnt exactly what i planned for my life and and yes i'd love to have alot of things but things arnt always that easy you cant make money out of nothing you cant go with 200 dollars and move to france and become a millionare which we all know isnt likely to happen even if we did move there. and not everyone has a million dollar idea, thats awesome if you had one and are rich but you shouldnt come here to brag let alone call us cowards. but your free to your own opinion just try to realise that for some of us its not that simple of a life.

To really get off the grid, once you've been on it, don't you have to start by changing your name and then getting literally off the grid by not using any utilities that can be traced to you or where you live?

That then takes away any social security (ha if any is left) you might have coming to you later in life. It also takes away the possibility of working for anything other than barter or cash under the table.

And of course the obvious things like not using credit cards and banks and the like and buying everything...house, cars, supplies, medical care...for cash not credit. And no healthcare insurance or car insurance or life insurance either.

Left that cesspool called western "civilisation" nearly 30 years ago. Neither want nor need a damn thing from it.
1. Built and live in my own home.
2. Have both herb and veg. garden along with fruit trees.
or get from jungle what I need.
3. Short walk to a great fishing spot.
4. Nearest village is a days walk through heavy jungle
5. If needed I provide medical treatment to the local villagers.
Yes theres some drawbacks here like
1. Wild animals i.e tigers, venemous snakes, monkeys 2. Risk of dengue fever or malaria from mosquitos certain times of year. or other tropical diseases.
But even with the drawbacks it beats the hell out of the cesspool you call western civilisation with corruption, greed , materialism, illegal/immoral wars .. And all the other problems of western society.
You want to be free learn to provide for yourself ask nothing of no one .. least of all from so-called "leaders" who dont give a rats arse about you.

It is all good and fair to bash someone who would want to collect a check and get paid for nothing.
I used to despise that sort.
However, I have grown a bit older and a lot softer.
I used to be a very physically strong individual I worked 60 – 80 hours a week for almost the last 22 years. I was a proud American and almost never vacationed.
I did all of this while being Diabetic and the father of 6 kids.
I worked because I was poor while growing up, and I refused to allow my kids to have anything but the best.
I never worked outside of the company I worked for in their field and I almost never worked under the table, I was a proud American, did I mention that?
I saw myself as a righteous white knight doing the good deed, and if I could inspire just a few to see things my way and make them better then maybe the world would be better.
All of this time I would collect tools of the trade and some toys for myself.
So now I find myself old and broke, both physically and financially.
So yeah I collect a check a bit earlier than I thought I would.
But I look back and realize I worked 40 years worth of American work roughly in the space of 20 years.
I see my grandfather living a good life in his retirement and my other grandfather before he died lived a good life too.
No matter how hard I worked I was always just 1 month away from poverty though.
I just cannot see how the grandfolks did it, I finally realized that my grandfolks were playing a different game than I was, the game has changed.
So as for the 3d screen forget it I have my 40 inch flat panel and a few good modern computers, I have all of my work tools and much more.
I can build a house and never have to buy a tool, I can also maintain said house.
I was very crafty, the only self manufactured thing I have not delved into is brewing, that is my next step however.
So…… what does this all mean?
I pay A LOT of taxes I pay income tax, tax at any store I go to I pay a water bill a sewage and garbage bill, house payment and insurance for it.
Everything I could do very easy for myself I get taxed for.
So as for making myself a millionaire and still being able to be proud of who you are, it will not happen. But I already have my toys so my income just has to sustain me for the little things I need.
Going off of the grid seems like my only and best choice.
I can generate electricity, install a septic tank, burn my trash, pump or even carry and purify my water, garden and dry / can food.
All of this and no fluoride and gmo.
Seems like off the grid is the best way.
And in the event of a cash crash or even just hyperinflation I would be totally unaffected.
Looks like I will win after all.
I will just have to do it without a 96 inch screen, I’m cool with that though.
I do however salute you for being the White Knight.
And I wish upon you blessings and toys beyond your wildest dreams.
I will however save you a spot in my area when you come to my realization.
Peace.
And to Expat, it is my opinion you may be the richest man i know of.
Good on You.

everyone desires a different life

what works for you, might be someone else's struggle
what works for someone else, might be your struggle

ps - how can you live 'off the grid' if you receive government checks? that doesn't make sense and i've never heard anyone claim those two together

peace

@ g146541 thanks.. hardest part was building my house. Did it using traditional japanese construction methods no nails used instead cut and join the wood together. Took me just over a year to complete it.
Aside from the tax thing sounds like you have it better than most there.. Hope you get your place set up to be fully independent sounds like you have most of it in place.. Apologies slow response forgot had posted in this thread..
