Hey BH!
How are the beasts?

Anyhow, the OP stated that we are ALL wrong?

Certainly, I COULD be wrong, but that situation only really comes up if see evidence that I am wrong. Otherwise, I'm going to assume I'm right, or I'm going to not make any assumptions until I have further information. At the moment, I think I have enough information to believe I am reasonably correct. IF I should come in contact with evidence that shows otherwise, I will have to rethink my beliefs.

Until then, why should I dwell on how I COULD be wrong? Should I do my additions with slightly less assurance because 1+1 MAY not be 2? No, I'll face that hurdle when I come to it (and maybe invent a new kind of math).

The point of religion, as opposed to mathematics, is that nobody knows.... so yes, you could be wrong.

1+1 is 2.... there is no other answer, It's not a belief system.

If you're convinced that your religious beliefs/convictions are correct then that's fine, but there should be some room for doubt or other possibilities.
I don't want to turn this thread into a religious argument and I'm not going to, but I will ask what you mean by "See evidence that I'm wrong" and also "I have enough information to believe I am correct"

I'd just be interested to hear your thoughts.

You may well be right, but you may well be wrong.

I think that seems to be the point of the thread.

That's the whole point of belief. I admit, I could be wrong, but I don't believe that I am. Since I don't believe that I am wrong, why would I seek other possibilities? I will keep an open mind, but I won't go looking for a new belief system. That is how a belief system works. So in reality, it doesn't matter whether I am right or wrong, what matters is I believe I'm right.

But blup blup, 1 is an axiom. The + operation is an axiom. The = operator is an axiom. These are all things that we decided on, for a stable and consistent mathematical structure. Nobody ever "proved" that 1+1=2. We assumed it, and based our mathematical language off it. And it isn't wrong to do so! We had to assume something.

Despite what many wish to think, mathematics is based on a lot of assumptions. This doesn't diminish the use of mathematics, or it's applicability as a tool for science, but the fact still remains.

As far as I go, I accept the existence of a God. Call it a "feeling", call it the sum of my experiences, a "presence" that puts me at peace, a pleasure at comprehending the world around me, etc. Someone else may have perhaps come to a different conclusion when faced with the same stimuli, but I didn't.

In more concrete terms, I also think of myself as a muslim. I follow the Quran, and it resonates with me. If, however, I were to find something in it that wasn't true, or didn't make sense, I'd have to rethink my ideology.

no doubt!

the problems always seem to boil down to ATTACHMENT!

let go, as Buddha might say.
but i could be wrong.

I think you're right. I was just relaxing, reading the matrix and became aware that ATTACHMENT is the new theme. I think the whole reality just changed, from Wednesday until today; the bell rang and everyone shuffled off to the next period. All in attendance say "AY!".

Well that's true enough, that is the point of belief, and at least you're able to say that you may be wrong, too many are so set in their ways and will not even consider the possibility that they may be wrong.

Believing you are wrong and accepting that maybe there is a chance you are wrong are two different things, I'm glad you can see the difference.

That's fair enough... That's generally the answer I get.
I guess in certain aspects of my life I do rely on faith, feelings and intuition, in fact in many aspects I do... just not my religious beliefs or lack of.

But yeah, Thanks for answering anyway.

I also believe there may be some presence or force in the universe and maybe a connection between all of us.... so I understand that... although for me It's not a deity or an actual being or whatever.... just a life force Chi, Qi... Tao...... call it what you will.
But I can't just accept one of the many pre-packaged and dogmatic organised religions.
