UV laser stun gun

Now I'm not familiar with this technology myself, but I do know that laser guns have been around for a while. A browse through the Laser & Rail
Guns thread here didn't help me much cos I really don't understand anything about this type of weaponry.

So will this be a better system - and are those who protest its use just a lot of bleeding hearts?

I actually thought of something very similar to this years ago! My design used a high intensity pulsed UV laser to excite the atoms in the air to the target, then a capacitor bank would discharge and kill the intended target. The weapon I came up with was lethal, although I could see it used as a stun weapon too! Its too bad I never came up with a patent , oh well.


BTW my gun was named the UEG(Ultraviolet Electron Gun).

I don't pretend to understand the technology behind your weapon, but it sure sounds impressive! The UV gun described in this news item seemed to have a fairly short range. Maybe if your idea had a much longer range it would be worthwhile trying to patent it.

I can't believe I'm suggesting the idea of another killer weapon here! Guess it would ease my conscience if yours at least resulted in a quick & painless death though.

I had the same idea. I made all of the plans, with 5 kV pulse discharge capacitors and UV lasers. The 193 nanometer laser in the stun gun has a rannge of 100 yards, whereas if you use a 248 nanometer laser, it ionizes the air out to 2 kilometers, with more power, though. I abandoned my project when I realized how big these lasers were. I hope they come out with smaller lasers, then I will have a ray gun!

Well stun guns are in the news lately, but I have difficulty telling fact from fiction.
