Should ATS close this forum?

Close this forum, or any other would be a mistake. People are pissed off about this disaster & rightful so. Take away places where people can speak their minds relieves the stress we are all feeling. We are sitting on a powder keg of emotion. Striking a match right now just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. So, if you don't want to participate in this, or any other forum....don't. It's that easy. Just don't. There are plenty of others you can visit.

If enough people share your opinion a forum will die out on its own. On a personal note I prefer to make my own decisions. The mods have a role here & are necessary. But I will decide for myself what is, or is not, a waste of my time.

I guess I just want the whole BP Gulf Nightmare to get to the point where they can start a valiant effort knowing that no more oil is gushing.

Satellite image speaks volumes

There have been conflicting rumblings across the newswire services and across social media outlets whether the Gulf oil spill has been entrained into the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current.

The images below from NASA's MODIS satellite speaks volumes and confirms many people's worst fears.

Per The Weather Channel's tropical expert Dr. Richard Knabb, "based on satellite images, model simulations, and on-site research vessel reports, I think it is reasonable to conclude that the oil slick at the surface is very near or partially in the loop current. The loop current is responsible in the first place for extending that stream of oil off to the southeast in satellite imagery."

Why is the Loop Current a big deal?

It's a big deal because it's a mode of transportation for the oil spill. No longer will it be confined in the northern Gulf Coast.

The oil spill has discovered its exit strategy and that exit is now in progress.

The Loop Current's influence has pulled the oil at the ocean surface toward the southeast away from the original oil spill area.

This influential "pull" has now positioned the oil either just at the doorstep of the Loop Current or it is indeed now inside the current.

Yup this is over...all the politics and news maybe, but the envoironmental issues will last lifetimes.

BP is hurting, and the PTB don't wanna spend anything more on this spill clean up, bills have been pasted, agendas fullfilled, its all good now and go back to what you where doing before we contaminated an entire food source for millions, oh sorry if you lost your BUSINESS or JOB or PENSION, and by the way the food is safe to eat. Very sad times.

Too often in our society the emphasis is on hurry up and move on to the next thing. While that may the norm in society, in an environment like ATS, an issue such as BP and the oil spill has way too many areas that can and will be covered for months and or years to come.

While shutting down is in my opinion the wrong thing to do, scaling down is perhaps a good thing. BP will continue to have issues, concerns and other coverage coming from the gulf about a plethora of subject matter. To shut down and not be able to process or use that long term coverage would be in my mind a severe mistake for ATS.

Like I said, scale down, don't shut down. Re-define categories, combine groups but just understand that this BP crisis is far from over. Anyone who thinks there is only clean up from here on out hasn't been paying attention. If someone like this is attempting to shut down BP coverage it could be because they have other priorities.

That being said, ATS has in my mind a responsibility to cover the many areas of what the BP disaster brought us. In that vein of thought, shutting down is the wrong thing to do.

Time will show that in the months to come, that BP will still be a formidable issue in the minds of Americans. With that being said, closing down BP coverage just sounds like someone impatient that wants to move on to the next big thing. Whatever that may be.

Anyway, BP is going to be in our lives for years. Better get use to it. Better get ready and prepare for it. To do otherwise is to ignore reality. IN fact, I believe that in the future, BP experts will be created in the various areas of the BP disaster. Much like the 911 incident, it too had many areas and much information has come forth through the years and I believe that BP will be just the same in many ways.

BP is going to be covered, investigated and researched for years to come. Might as well have someone and some ATS venue to catch that data and input from ATS membership and others. That's my thought on the subject.

I agree, this spill has too many implications.

the oil is still from the sea floor so why should ATS close it?

9/11 is over.. should we close that forum also?

No.. it will be a long time before we know everything there is to know about why and how this happened and who (which persons within BP.. etc) is responsible.

Yea call it done! BP has and why? They have to pay thousands per gallon / oil spilled in the gulf. Even if they know there will be a calamity because of the shutoff they will cut their losses and run!

Let the US become responsible to open the valve again thereby absolving BP of future problems. Nice move...Let the damned valve stay and investigate all of the floor around for 30 miles.

This spill will affect the gulf region for years to come and may affect the national economy even more.

There's a lot of analysis to be done before this discussion is over.

First off let me say Bravo to you. You have not one but two mods posting to this thread. I guess that means this is one hot topic to discuss. You must have been thinking long and hard about posting this. I hope you didn't think that the people on here would just agree with you and go on our merry way. This forum is the place that you can get a more accurate discussion about this situation then you will ever get from the MSM. I think next time you want to put something up like this you should think about the fallout that will be sent your way. Other than that BP is not even close to having this wrapped up. I tell you what put this in a folder and post it again sometime around december you may get it right by then.
