More Oil Leaks! The Rich Lie Again! Time to March for Renewable Energy!

Can anyone think of a better time for the poor of the world to demand alternative, renewable energy? All this oil leaking into the Gulf will only deplete our already peak oil supplies and drive the price of oil higher and higher.

Why are we not fighting for the renewable energies that we all know exist? Our planet, our economy and our people need free, renewable energy. Its invented and ready to be implemented. We need to demand it.

We need to organize an international march, using the ATS community, to demand alternative energies and protest the BP oil leaks and their greedy economic practices. Our voices must be heard by more than the ATS community. But ATS is where it must begin.

We pick a day and march. Everyone. Across the world. Its that simple.

No violence though please. We must stay calm and resist provocation from the people that want to cause violence. Violence will only give the media an excuse to polarize our viewpoint and label us as crazies. Non-violence is the only way real change has ever been affected: women's rights, civil rights, gay and lesbian rights and so on. Peaceful marching is the only way to gather support from EVERYONE. Anger and violence will only hurt our cause.

We must deprive the rich businessmen of the economic process. We shut down the cities, cause traffic jams and spread the word that the people are rising up for their right to the best available energy technology. By peacefully cutting the flow of goods and products, by blocking the roads with our massive numbers, we will affect real change. The only thing our leaders listen to is money. We must show the rich that we can stop the flow of money whenever we want by simply walking together in the streets. Its that simple.

I know we're all sick of it. The sheeple are sick of it too. We must demand alternative energy sources through peace and numbers. This is an issue that could unify the poor across the world.

So, what day are we marching ATS?

LOL have fun spending 8 hrs charging your car every 40 miles on your vacation. If you are lucky you will make it there and back before you have to go back to work.

If only it were that simple.

Here in Ontario we've investing billions and billions into wind power, covering our countryside with massive industrial turbines. During the last heatwave, all that wind power could only produce one tenth of one percent of the power that was needed. It was pathetically useless.

Wind and solar need constant backup because they are unreliable and non-dispatchable. Now our government must build dozens of new gas plants to make up the difference.

Over the past year, European countries are slashing subsidies to renewables simply because they are finding them to be unaffordable and non-productive.

I find it ironic that you cite the poor for wanting this. Electricity bills will skyrocket (triple or quadruple) with renewable energy. How is having to make another payment similar to a mortgage payment going to help the poor?

It will certainly make some energy companies very rich though. Those same oil companies are now heavily investing in subsidy rich renewables. These aren't environmentalists...this is big business.

I'm all for solutions but please don't fall for all the propoganda and sales pitches....look at the facts.

Please give me more credit than regurgitating propaganda pitches and disinformation.

Think larger. Your city's wind power doesnt work because renewable energy cannot be distributed from gigantic central sources like oil and coal can. It doesn't work the same so we cant use the same infrastructure. People deride renewable energy as being impotent and powerless because it cant power an entire city from one central power plant.

Renewable energies cannot work this way because they honestly don't work this way. However every house can be made into its own self sustainable power plant. If renewables can only provide a tiny amount of power, not a city wide amount, then lets readjust our buildings to fit the energy. Because we just can't readjust renewable energy to our centralized power plant style of energy transference. We've tried for the past decade and we've found it doesn't work. The energy is still out there, we just need to rethink our way of getting it to the people.

When your city set up massive centralized locations they were doomed to fail because renewable energy does not work this way. Every home must be its own mini power plant. This also makes us more responsible for our energy use since we are the ones who must provide it for ourselves. Maybe a grid can be set up to pass along surplus energy to our neighbors.

If we demand renewable power in the form of an internationally organized march then maybe, at worst, the rich will realize theres money to be made selling everyone on the planet their own renewable power plant. That makes both sides happy.

Maybe instead of marching we should boycott our jobs. Its easier and more fun than marching and hits the rich where it counts, profits.

But let's do SOMETHING and lets do it together. Cynicism, despair and negativity certainly aren't helping the situation.

This is a great posting.

I would propose that people start investing their efforts into water purification systems and affordable greenhouse methods.

America will need to find a way to keep the toxic rain off the plants we will need to stay alive.

Agriculture is going to be a huge issue after the gases separate from the dispersed oil. Corexit allows the oil to actually move into organic matter that would naturally pass petroleum from itself.

As far as driving around, making plastics and fueling the global machine goes…alternative energy is not as necessary as destroying the multi-nationals that own all product creation, agriculture and distribution. If we could go back ot local economies that are sustainable there will be way less of a demand for oil products to move consumer goods from one place to another.

It is always great to get glue heads that has gone organic to espouse nonsense about energy. Unless the NWO succeeds with depopulation renewable energy is is a joke for a modern industrial society. Renewables generating electricity accounts for 5% of the total supply. Of the 5%- 90% is hydro electric power. Of course all true glue heads want the dams destroyed to save the snail darter. Nevertheless than leaves only 10% of 5% from renewables for the electric power generation. Good luck supplying your needs from windmills, solar panels and bio-mass. By the way 90% of bio-mass is burning wood. Did alot of that in Europe before all the forest were gone.

If energy management was actually done properly (kinda like food management) where lights got turned of when not in use in office buildings and it wasnt dumped into things like powering a few hundred plasma tv's to run animated sponsor advertisement around a sporting pitch etc, coupled with tidal power (hey the moon aint going anywhere and the tides are always moving and its got almost nill affect on marine life) and kinetic energy collection (we have billions of miles of highways in the world that have a constant moving source of kinetic energy, not to mention underfloor kinetic energy collection).

We WOULD have enough energy easily... it aint some damn hippy drug induced dream.

And as for electric cars not getting you very far... hey its 2010.. not 1990, electric cars have come along way, and once again people arent thinking logically, oh its electric their crap, you cant go anywhere with em!, wheres the grunt ugh ugh!... you use Electric for local travel for crying out loud, going to the shops, the kids school etc. All intra-city buses and trains running on electricity.

Anything requiring extensive travel distances between cities such as holidays, inter-city movement of goods (which SHOULD use trains, not trucks) use regular fuel.

Simple.

Unfortunately, renewable isnt profitable... and the humans in control put profit above all else.

no, no it's not. to make that analogy correct, the OP would have to suggest we go 'back' to the power infrastructure of the 16th century, which he/she is not promoting.

it's annoying and incorrect when people pretend that sustainable energy sources are akin to luddites.

Solar and wind are most certainly not a step 'backwards' whatsoever, so your analogy falls quite flat. They are highly complex, evolving modern technology, nothing akin to 'sails' on a ship as opposed to combustion engines.

That said, i think most people are totally delusional when they speak of renewables. There is no magic, green way to switch our energy grid over to a 'sustainable' model, unless we power down, and have de-centralized power supplies, as referenced in doctornamtab's post.

if you want to march for renewable energy , march down to your local car sales place and buy a ethanol equipped car.. it will be far more effective then a demonstration.. vote with your dollars.. don't like something you see, don't participate in it.

If you cant afford a new car, run 20% ethanol in our gasser .. most gassers wont even flinch at that percentage .. many will run 50% just fine. Also most states gasoline is now all 10% ethanol already.

And I actually run a ethanol burning car and use ethanol every tank and I have a vegetable oil burning one also.. so I'm not just talking here, I walk the walk.

Government isn't going to do crap.. they cant even read the bills they pass into law how the hell do you expect them to do something useful.. You have to be the change you seek.

ethanol is made from plants, live plants that absorb carbon dioxide.. and expel oxygen.. it's not oil based and has far fewer emissions than oil based fuels when used as a fuel.

most ethanol is often corn or sugar based (beet or cane) depending on the local region.. and its usually fairly locally grown... thus decreasing transportation costs for the finished fuel.

the vast majority of corn ethanol is grown with GMO corn on massive monoculture farms that are completely unsustainable and contribute greatly to topsoil runoff, and greenhouse gas emissions.

in some parts of the world (like Brazil), native habitat is being torn down to grow new monoculture cane plantations for ethanol.

none of that is sustainable whatsoever.

no better than petrol AT ALL.

half dozen of one, 6 of the other.

walk, ride a bike, dont buy things brought to you by anything other than these two modes of transport. Everything else is just a greenwashed problem.

Aha! Well put. I couldn't agree more. Spending is voting. So imagine what would happen if the money supply to the rich was suddenly squeezed shut completely? We could do this by boycotting work one day or two days or whatever it takes. If we vote with our dollars why wait fifteen years to run BP out of business when we can do it THIS WEEK by simply staying at home with our families and doing what we want to do with our day.

Our absence from work is our protest. No marching or chanting required. Get out and do what YOU want. along with millions of others in a unified protest of profit hungry businesses who ruin our world right before our very eyes. We owe it to future generations to make our stand right now and defend their inheritance of a healthy, safe planet on which to live. Think, we can't even assure that for our kids right now. That makes me so ashamed of what we've allowed to happen.

Spending, in any way, is still supporting the system by fueling it so to speak (pardon the pun). But a boycott of work leaves them no choice. Without the flow of profits to drive the economy that they love so dear, what else can the rich do but give in? If the economy fails then they fall from power. They WILL give in because its the only thing that will maintain their power, that they also love so dear.

you can run a car on alcohol and electic with solar panelled come up with coloured photovoltaic panels in nature nothing goes to waste
