Read a few articles that have stated, supposedly this is not due to the riff between Germany and the US over Iraq. They want to scale down to smaller lower cost bases elsewhere.

But they are considering Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania as future sites for the bases that would be closed in Germany.

All at a major cost to the german population, some 12,000 jobs would be eliminated as well.

This should get interesting.

I can give links to the articles, but after reading the announcement , and being new here I don't want to get banned I will refrain unless someone, or a mod here says its ok. to post links.

You can post links. It's just we want to avoid 'link spamming' - see Zion's post for more info. We just want a link with commentary, opinions, discussion, etc.

I think the US should close the bases in Germany. Just don't see the point in having them there anymore, Cold war is over, Germany doesn't seem to like us anymore, so on and so forth. By moving them to 'New Europe' (lol) it would be cheaper and the bases would be in nations that want our presence.

And theres already been talk of moving our troops out of Saudi Arabia after removing Saddam. And they should get the troops out of S. Korea - the dear leader is a madman.

There is no longer a need, they don't want us there, and it's a nice little spanking for the "veto" threat... I hope they follow through with it...
