NASA help Solve a Murder Mystery

We often see people on this site bashing NASA for one reason or another (usually accusing them of doctoring pictures and or not being truthful, that's not my stance on NASA just an observation) but here is an article that I found that actually makes them the good guys for once

A NASA, Carnegie Mellon and the USGS team has deployed a Senseta MAX 5.0A Rover to help in the Dawn Sanchez murder case, they used the rover to perform magnetic surveys of a vacant lot in Alviso, Calif., looking for buried material evidence, which included car parts and a possible body buried in the old junk yard.

The rover found car parts that matched the suspect's car (this is an 18 year old case) , buried in the junk yard and the suspect then was convicted of manslaughter, and sentenced to six years in prison. heh fair play NASA!

Hi Copperflower, yeah I agree with you, it's good thing that Dawn Sanchez's family have now got closure on this, It's also good to see NASA's technology going to good use on a case like this!

Maybe they can help in my country..... By pissing off and stopping the disclosure whitewash they are forcing upon us and the rest of the world! I didnt and dont pay for NASA.... Never will.

And for the record, I've never paid for NASA either I'm from the UK...

NASA has bettered our technology alot, and that is all fine and good.

my fellow citizens and i don't pay NASA to solve murders thou.

Hi rhynouk, Yeah it’s a good story about NASA for once, and the family now at least have closure on Dawn, I really couldn’t tell you if this type of technology will be used more regular on this kind of case, it would seem a good idea to use it more though in my opinion, as for the cost again I couldn’t tell you for sure it doesn’t say anything in the article about money or cost but from what I can gather the rover was already built so the initial cost of the build was already taken care of, here is a bit more on the rover..

i didn't know the number of patents was that much.

exploring deep space with unmanned probes and a mission to mars is i think the right direction too.

i do like NASA and what they do. maybe they could help and get this device on the mass market and help crimefighting everywhere.

NASA has some questions that they may never answer thou.
