If you already knew I was going to bring up both the Coffee and tea party then you can have a cookie. We have numerous members on ATS who are full
pledge members of these groups or support their cause. I'm curious as to what my fellow ATS members views are on these two groups. I'll post the
political ideologies that the groups believe in and start off the thread with my views of the two movements. Please keep this thread civil and respect
other people's opinions.
Tea Party: The Tea Party movement is a United States movement that emerged in 2009 through a series of locally and nationally coordinated protests.
The protests are partially in response to several Federal laws: the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 ("bailout"), the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("stimulus package"), and the 2009–2010 health care reform bills. The name "Tea Party" is a reference to the Boston
Tea Party of 1773—a protest by American colonists against taxes imposed on them by the British government, and against the colonists' lack of
direct representation in the British Parliament. Tea Party protests have invoked themes, images and slogans similar to those used during the
pre-revolutionary period in American history. "Fun fact from history" Before the Boston Tea Party, the British actually lowered tea taxes, not
raised them.
Coffee Party: The Coffee Party USA is a political movement that developed as an alternative to the Tea Party movement. Its mission states that it is
based on the underlying principle that the government is "not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must
participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges we face as Americans." Its slogan is "Wake Up and Stand Up". Its stated
goals include getting cooperation in government and removing corporate influence from politics.
Both parties to make big causes to get members wild up. I do side with the Tea Party on protesting the bailouts. They simply don't work. The coffee
Party has a great ideology. We need to work with government and get America moving again.
