Anybody make their own WAP Gateway/Server

i was reading online in howardfourms about using your own computer & broadband connection to create a WAP gateway. im not really wanting it so i dont have to pay for WAP access through Tmobile, but id like to be able to use ports that Tmo blocks.

Anybody done this? got any clue as to what im talkin about? cos its way over my head- i too much
