In the early hours of March 24th 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil supertanker runs aground in Alaska. It discharges millions of gallons of crude oil. The incident becomes the biggest environmental catastrophe in North American history.

I don't think people will ever learn, to be honest. Most people are too set in their ways. They don't want to have to sacrifice anything that they have and they just don't care about the implications of their actions. It saddens me greatly to think of what the gulf will be like in 20 years...50 years....100 years. IMO the only way people will ever learn that we cannot continue to destroy our planet in such ways is something that takes away the things that they take for granted. I don't know what that would be but I am sure it will not be a pretty sight for humanity.

People say that corporations care more about profits than about people and I agree. But I also think that a lot of people care more about their own little world than the bigger picture. It makes me wonder sometimes if people have the capacity to look into the future and see what they are doing to the world that their kids will be forced to inhabit. Sometimes I wonder if they even care! I don't know but what I do know is that mother nature is resilient and will right our wrongs one way or another, with or without us!

Sad is what it is and bitter is what it makes me.!!!!

Thanks for sharing the videos. I truly belive that in some instances such as these that people in power honestly say to themselves - it wont happen to us, we wont make the same mistake twice etc yet they can never be certain and in the case of the GOM disaster they knew the risks involved but still bulleshly went ahead with drilling etc knowing what could happen and what ultimatly has happened.

We can't learn because we can't even face the facts as they are unfolding! Everything is massaged, spun, denied, debunked, etc etc..."what problem, there's no problem! Now here, take a look at these videos of some starlet or people kicking a ball around a field."

If we can't even register the problem in the first place, how can we even begin to think about remembering its magnitude in the future, much less learn from it.

And even when something is too big for the history books to ignore, you can be sure it will be spun to fit the agenda of whatever power happens to be weilding the septre at the moment.
