There is a lot of controversy surrounding this case. Conflicting reports, inconsistency in details with both sides of the case. The victim herself has asked that the matter be dropped because she wants to move on with her life and not revisit a traumatic event that she has learned to come to terms with.

The question now becomes: is there enough evidence to prosecute him if the victim is not willing to testify?

People would have forgotten. They would have let it go if he didn't do it again.

But instead he decided a course of action that rubbed his elitist connections in the face of the World.

The problem is that your post is relying on him having any kind of decency or humanity.

Someone that anally rapes a non-consenting 13-year-old, and flees when he has to face the consequences of his actions, is not the sort of person that would take his punishment like a man - nor worry about it.

The fact that most normal people look on him with a mixture of anger, revulsion and contempt, means little to him, because he's still got all of his amoral/immoral acting, directing and producing friends to back him up and support him.

It's his influential friends in more established positions of government and judiciary, that really set my alarm bells ringing.

No one should be above the law, even the people who make the law.

is it really the age that offends people in pedophilia , or is it the social taboo of todays society of children having to be 18+ to engage in sex with "adults" that make it bad? i remember learning about ancient greece and that as soon as a woman was fertile (well before 18y/o) they were REQUIRED to have kids to support the greek armies. in the medieval era, people were getting married and having families around 12-14 because i think the life span was avg 30-60yrs. not to mention the children who are already arranged to be married at birth or during childhood by their parents.

not that i support rape or child abuse of any way or in any kind, but just wanted to know others opinions on it.

*and yes, they should ALL be punished. jail time itself would be sufficient enough because it comes with the added extra of torture from those inmates against people who commit crimes against women/children. which is pretty much ALL of them still alive in jail

Polanski pleaded guilty to drugging a 13 year old girl then sodomising her.
He then did a runner to escape his punishment.

Like all child rapists he should be locked away for the rest of his life and given hard labour.

But he and the arty fraternity in Hollywood etc think they are above the law.

I couldn't give a toss how old he is he should be punished.

There are plenty of threads on ATS discussing child pornography and / or the age of consent.

Polanski showed a wilful disregard for his victim and then treat the US judicial system with total contempt when he fled the country.
The European countries that he resides in should forcibly re-patriate him to the US so he can see out his life in prison paying for his heinous crime.
