I got these images from the facebook group Boycott BP. The information under the photos read: "This is the marsh in Plaquemines Parish not a Lake. The marsh is where the fresh water and the Gulf meet.Photo by PJ Hahn"

I have seen results like this before in Lousisiana............It is do to the oxygen being removed from the water seeing that many chad / bait fish dead all at once and only a couple large fish like the bass in the photo.....

The question is if these photos are real what caused the oxygen to be depleted from the lake/mash.......??

At first glance i thought all of the small whithe things in the water were some kind of flower pedals. Boy was I wrong. This is disgusting. And the bad part about it is that this is only the beginning.

MOTF!

Before everyone jumps to conclusions with these photos lets look at them very closely........

First of all I am all about fighting what BP / Gov is allowing to happen to the Gulf States........

But at the same time the facts must be accurate and in this case photos......

Yes there are shad / bait fish dead everywhere........with at least two larger fish that can be seen in the photos, one of which is a bass........

Looking at the details of these photos I can clearly see that oil is not present.....you do not see oil on the banks, on the fish, and you do not see any oil sheens on the water...........You can clearly see into the water a couple feet..........

What I do see from these photo are that all the bait fish died about the same time which means oxygen had been depleted from this lake / mash.......

So if these photos have been "recently" taken then I would question what has depleted the oxygen level so that fish were to die............

OP if you can feed us more information on when and where exactly these photos were taken from the blog would be helpful.........

NO oil, but BP has been spraying cortexant literally everywhere (even in areas unaffected by oil as of yet).

Perhaps it is the dispersant?

I asked him if it was brackish water, not freshwater, and when the photo was taken, PJ's response as follows:

"P.j. Hahn July 12 at 2:53pm
The pictures were taken on Saturday and the water is brackish to freshwater."

Not knowing if PJ is a photographer or fisherman ...........

I do know that if he was a fisherman that he would of picked up that bass do to its size and took a picture of it............Most fisherman only get to dream of catching one that size.......

So that makes me lean more toward that he is a photographer.........which means he should have more detailed information concerning his photos compared to that of a fisherman...........

Due to the magnatude of the dead fish ........more information should surface by "fisherman".............

Hopefully PJ will provide more information.........

I can't say for sure but the pictures look like they came from the 2008'

The LDEQ Incident Command and Executive Staff are concerned about the potential of Hurricane Ike. Activities related to Hurricane Gustav continue, but the Incident Command is addressing the need for possible response to any damage created by the new Hurricane. Investigations of fish kills remain a priority for LDEQ. Teams are being sent to examine sites of fish kills, and water quality teams are moving around the affected area to determine the extent of the problem. LDEQ inspectors are continuing to investigate the temporary debris sites that have been set up to dispose of the damaged trees and limbs created by Gustav.

Its unfortunate that you have to qualify your concern for the Gulf and this event before you can declare your potential skepticism as to the authenticity of these photos.
