Are ATS Members Losing The Ability To think For Themselves ?

If there's one thing I don't like about ATS it's all the 'z0mg, ATS is the worst its evAr beenzzzzz!' topics

IMO the notion put forward in this thread is bunk, if not largely exagerated.

It highlights one thing, we have alot of paranoid members. A group of people being in agreement on several issues isn't some sort of conspiracy. Members receiving alot of stars and flags isn't a conspiracy either. Some people are well researched, well articulated. Others aren't and the flagging system usually reflects that(aswell as general opinion).

While announcing you're waiting for someone to respond to the thread is silly, I don't think I've ever seen such a post.

I'm not accusing you of lying, but exagerating what is largely a non-relevant issue. I've read hundreds of threads on here(in full, many larger threads too) and have yet to see someone make a post along the lines of "I'm waiting for Phage"... Infact, who the hell is Phage?

If you're talking about group mentality imo this thread is one of the better examples I've come across on here. Certain members present or otherwise are being slandered, aswell as anyone who has the misfortune of ever agreeing with their views or posts.

Actually I believe from what I have seen in past threads the disinfo started back in late 2007 to 2008. I noticed as soon as the Nibirushock2012 photos released the disinfo started to spread like rapid fire.

I think a bigger problem then people following others, is that some people don't even bother to think before posting which results in pointless posts and threads.

An even bigger problem I would say, is the fact that despite facts and sources being posted in threads, some people still chose to not read the entire thread and go ahead and make assumptions and claims already made and answered(either proven or debunked), like ten pages into the thread.

But what is probably the biggest problem for a site like this, in terms of user participation, is that some people make threads and make their claims on various subjects, but do not provide any sources or facts.
A recent example that comes to mind, some guy started a thread about something he had seen, he took photos, but when posting he announced that he wont post the photos because he doesn't think they are good enough. Well why bother wasting peoples time with your claims if you aren't going to give them something to help identify what you saw which may result in further investigation by some people which could lead to anything?

If I see a strange creature I've never seen before and I know of no animal that looks like that and I manage to take photos, I'd post them if I started a thread on it. Hello...common sense.

It is like some people join this site just to have a laugh.

I agree with you.

But since I can't trust "MSM's" experts, I am left with only my own limited facilities and the very FEW good minds I come across.

People want to call you names for using powerful tools in extreme times...so be it.

I rather make my own list of names I see sharing "real truth" and take in what they have to say for my own benefit.

Smart people taking serious time to spread serious "facts/ideas/revelations" honestly and openly should be seen as a godsend...nothing less.

That's fine and dandy, but for the hundreth time, this thread is not about PHAGE! That name came up as an example, where people put in a thread that they can't wait for that person to get there, and then say nothing else. It puts a damper on the thread, when that is all a person contributes to it, like nobody elses opinion, research, or thought matters.

Australian meaning of "EXPERT"

EX = An unknown quantity
PERT = Is just a drip under pressure!!

Many topics have been hashed over and over again. As soon as one "How come Christians are all this way" or "Why are debunkers such buttheads?", false flag threads etc. is off the most active another pops up in new topics, just outside of duplicate thread rules. What, I believe, we are seeing here is general consensus on certain points / topics and a frustrated readership looking to quickly crush opposition before the less exercised have the chance.

I do see a sort of swarming happening when certain well versed members contest the more wishful thinking threads.

It's the nature of this slow paced realm of conspiracies. We all want resolution and to get to the bottom of things soon as possible. Some people want to believe too hard and others want to believe so hard that they slaughter a topic or a poster before the topic or poster gains any traction.

It's sad to see but considering the realm... A predictable thing maybe.

Yes ATS members still have the ability to think for themselves. One problem being is that "thinking for one's self" means believing as I do. I noticed when people disagree here on ATS the first knee jerk reaction is to label them ignorant or brainwashed by some agency or group.

lmao, I first thought of Phage as well when I read your thread.

There always has and always will be those with a following of sorts. Sometimes it's because they have extremely outlandish ideas, and those of like mind group around that persons ability to express them. Or perhaps a more vocal political thinker.. Or sometimes, such as imo Phage's case... they usually debunk and show everyone up.

I've never really had a problem with it, it is what it is. I think the case where the person lets it all go to their head is much rarer.. I can only think of one indivudal with a large cult following that is arrogant due to them knowing and understanding that they do in fact have a cult following. Other than that, I don't see it as ATS degenerating in any way.

Remember, people join the site because of content produced by posters. If someone reads anothers work, like sit, joins, and follows their threads.. I'd say that's pretty normal.

The flagging and starring system mostly reflects popularity on this site. One member could post something like: "I just had sex with an alien" and he'll get tons of stars and lots of replies like "ZOMG! I wish I was you" while the guy, who posts a well researched post that contradicts with the other side's ideas, will get very few stars and ends up as a foe of many and on many ignore lists.

I believe most people use the starring system to either agree with the statement or think a statement needs more attention. I dont think it's a popularity contest. There are certain members I will look out for , but it doesn't mean I'l star their post unless they've put the point across better than I would be capable of. If your staring a poster just because you like them says more about you as an individual. However, If you agree with this post star it if you like me star it too

As long as he's right I don't care what his credentials are. Who has credentials in chemtrails and UFOs anyway?

And if someone is going to have a following it's nice to see that the person being followed is knowledgeable.

Actually some other ATS members besides Phage who are also pilots are also excellent contributors. So I have to wonder if there's some kind of correlation there.

The only planes I've piloted are on programs like Microsoft Flight Simulator and another program too, the aircraft carrier landings are tricky! While I'm only a simulator pilot, I do have respect for the real pilots.

Anyway, the pilots tend to be pretty sharp, I wouldn't mind seeing more of them posting on ATS. But that doesn't mean I can't think for myself.
