I came across this video on yahoo and it tough my heart and thought I should share this with all of you. He is more then a homeless man, he is a man that cares for the flag, and what it stands for........... to rescue the flag in a storm.

Homeless man rescues American flag during storm

I put this in Skunk works because I didn't find an appropriate board for this post. If this is in the wrong place mods, please feel free to move it.

I watched the video and, I cried because he picked the flag up and folded up Old Glory........like a military person would. Semper Fi.

Honestly I don't think the flag stands now what it used to stand for when we didn't have a government where alot of people are unhappy with what they are doing and taking away our freedoms. I know I used to think of the flag as standing for something but now think it has a bad rap because of the pieces of sh!t running the country.

I can't believe someone starred you for that comment.
You just spat on all of the people that fought for our freedom and died under that flag. It doesn't matter what POS government we have now, the flag does not represent the government, it represents the sacrifice that so many men and women have made, it represents their spirit, and by disrespecting the flag, you are saying their lives didn't matter.

OP, thanks for posting that video, it brought tears to my eyes as well.

Maybe it's just me buuuuut.....

I really don't see the point of risking my life (or in this case freezing my ass off and getting soaking wet with no way to dry myself) in order to save a piece of cloth - particularly when you live in a country where identical pieces of cloth can be found just about anywhere you lay your eyes.

Maybe it's because I'm Aussie and we don't worship our flag as much as, or even in the same way, Americans do theirs. Yes, I respect our flag and am proud to be an Aussie but I wouldn't run out in a storm just to save an Aussie flag. Bugger that - just wait till it dry's up, whack the flag in the wash and bobsyouruncle it's nice and shiny.

Just saying.......

Guaranteed he once was a soldier.

You cheered him as he killed people.

Now you cast him into the street, a rather wet street, at that.

And mock him, even when he acts with more honour than you know.

Maybe we should kill a few billion humans. Start with internet types and work from there.

Maybe I just view things differently, but what I saw was that a Homeless man with very very little cared more for what our flag is supposed to represent than the jerk offs in Washington DC who are paid very very well.

How is that for Irony?

He was not a soldier. He learned how to fold the flag when he worked Security in Tampa. It is mentioned towards the end of the video.

I can feel sympathy for someone that would do such a thing, for it is an emotional response.

But...

The way US citizens worship their flag is not only completely ridiculous, IMO.
This behavior is evidence or even proof, on how well indoctrination works. You call it patriotism. Americans that would die and kill for a country that does what ? in return.

Unless patriotism stands for command and conquer, instead of just being proud of your heritage. You treat your country as an idol, even your flag is worshiped like a golden calf.

I feel it is lunatic behavior.
It always remind me of a slogan.

"Don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

The united states are continuously at war since the second WW. Always in places far away. Where they are not supposed to be in the first place.

Unfortunately the indoctrination program works like a charm. Many Americans still volunteer to blow somebodies brains out on the other side of the world.
