Hello ATS,
I am a new member, but I guess you all get that a lot around here. First off let me say that I am a 20 year old male form S.C. I am a very caring person who always puts others before me. My parents have always been separated, both raised me as a Christian, I went to a Pentecostal Church until the age of 14 when I decided to stop going. I didn’t stop for any reason other than I didn’t want to wake up and go sit there every Sunday morning. As of last year I no longer call myself a Christian and do not believe in any religion as of yet. But on the other hand religion is one of my favorite topics. Other topics I really enjoy are Ancient Civilizations, Dreams, Science, Astrology and many others.
Well by now I’m sure you are wondering what it is I’m fearful of, and to tell you the truth I’m not 100% sure myself. That’s one of the reasons why I joined ATS. I am hoping to chat with others about what fear is to them, How fear effects there life’s, How they control their fears and if fear has ever stopped them from doing something. This is just some of the stuff that has brought me to ATS I am looking forward to chatting with all of you.

Thanks for reading
Mike Sardy

Hi Mikedardy and welcome to ATS.

As the saying goes, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself."

Firstly I will say to you that fear should not control yours or anyone's life. It's certainly no way to live! Majority of the things people worry or fear about on this forum never manifest. To some, fear has become a way of life... a lifestyle choice. Be wary of people selling fear on ATS... there are many.. and as they say, misery needs company.

The best advice I can offer is to wake up and look forward to every new day. Look forward to the positive changes you can bring into your own life and the lives of others.

Fear... I don't buy into it and neither should you!

Hi Mike...

I myself got over fear in a bunch of bad ways, but I have a better possible method for you...

Try checking out this here old Stoic philosophy The Manual of Epictetus...usually it requires some thought or interpretation to get the good part out of it...maybe it will be helpful...

And welcome to ATS...

Along the same lines of InfaredMan, welcome to ATS but remember:

"The only thing we have to fear are spiders, snakes, werewolves, sharks, dying alone, zombies, clowns, heights, really big dogs, robots with human brains, Johnson’s wife, and fear itself."

Anyhow, it's nice to meet you and I'm sure I'll be seeing you. I've been around a few years, if you need help with anything feel free to let me know.

Peace.

Welcome! Don't waste any time on fear, all you are doing is wasting time on something you don't need when you could have been doing something awesome.

I love The Residents mate! How did you know? (Oh.. my avatar)!
I've actually been downloading a whole heap of their back catalog over the last few weeks... stuff I haven't already got on vinyl.

"Once I had some pets And let them starve to death
It was a funny little monkey And a big white Easter Bunny
They lived in little cages And sometimes in rages
I would turn them upside down And drag the monkey all around"

- Monkey & Bunny

Sorry.. back on topic... Fear is bad!

Welcome and remember. It's not what you've got, it's what you do with it that counts, or in the case of fear how you act on it. Ignoring fear or trying to suppress it can be more damaging than coming to terms with those fears and understanding them. It is a choice, as all emotions are, and I'm sure you can make the right choice.

Hello and welcome to ATS.
dont take all of ATS seriously.
it will mess to up all the way.
from what you have said.
I think you are looking for some thing to believe in.
to replace Christianity.
you dont have to go to a church to be a Christian.
maybe you are looking for another religion?
have a good look around.
try Theravada Buddhism. it is easy and safe.

Hello and Welcome Mike

I'm guessing at the reasons behind your fear, but it could be the hole that's left in your life by stepping away from Religion, depending on how serious a part it played in your life in the first place.

Then there's all the trouble with the World, if you watch TV a lot, you'll know what I mean, if not, ATS will inform you

It's enough to give you a few nightmares, but alas, we are still here and tomorrow will come.

What ever may drive your fears, it doesn't really matter, just remember, it's a natural part of Humanity but you don't have to become slave to it.

For me, I recognize it as such, respecting it's existence in me, but I call the shots.

P.S never fear what TPTB tell you, it has only one purpose, fear mongering for control.
Worry about what they don't tell you.
