Iranian woman to be stoned to death for alleged adultery -- Video

As Americans enjoy a day of leisure following July 4th celebrations, here is a stark reminder that a sizable portion of the world does not enjoy the same "unalienable rights" guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.
An Iranian human rights activist and Amnesty International are trying to stop the "imminent" stoning death of an Iranian woman found guilty of adultery.
CNN has the story of Sakineh Mohammeadie Ashtiani, a 43-year-old mother of two. CNN reports an Internet campaign will hopefully drum up enough international outrage to pressure Iran to stop the stoning.

Even as I understand that we westerners have our own attitudes and customs relating to adultery, and that we are perhaps mistaken in trying to impose our standards on a completely different culture, I am nevertheless appalled that this is still going on in the world. It's been over 2,000 years since the western Biblical story of the stoning of a woman taken in adultery (although I think this custom continued long after Jesus intervened) and I would like to believe that humanity has made at least a little progress toward eliminating some of its most primitive and barbaric practices.

As a woman, I am particularly appalled, although I understand men are sometimes stoned to death in Iran as well, and I think that is horrible too.

This is on CNN now. The family is begging activists groups around the world to get involved and "save our mother".

For this deed of which she has been accused, adultery, she has already received 99 lashings.

Truly demoralizing to the human spirit.

Since when is it "imposing our standards on a different culture" to attempt to thwart the state-sanctioned murder of a woman in an abhorrent fashion for the crime of adultery? Basic humanitarianism is not a cultural standard.

I dont agree with this kind of behavior. It's all about his husbands's pride.And have you heard about the kind of proof they must have to prove she's guilty ? It's insane,It's insanity to me. WOW ! What will his husband's do with his kids now ?

She didn't admit to committing adultery until she was lashed 99 times. Gotta love them forced confessions. i.e. waterboarding Now she has retracted her confession but it is too late.

This is sad. Very sad, only.

I hate to say this but it's very unlikely that we can do anything for this poor girl. I want to help her but it's futile. I just wish there was something I could do besides signing a petition and voicing my strong objection.

There is a rule for stoning, though. After the stoning starts, if said person is able to free themselves, it's over. For men facing stoning, they are only buried to the waist. For women however, they're buried up to their breasts.

This is just so sad. =(

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani was interrogated in 2006 for the murder of her husband. In the interrogation session, Sakineh confessed to committing adultery with Nasser and Seyyed Ali, the two men responsible for her late husband’s murder.

In May 2006, branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Oskoo in the province of Eastern Azerbaijan (in northwestern Iran) sentenced Sakineh to 99 lashes for committing adultery.

After serving her sentence, she was released. Four months later, branch 6 of the Criminal Court of Azerbaijan sentenced her to death by stoning for adultery while married. Link*

I know you are and I apologize if I made it seem otherwise. My primary issue is with the belief that allowing other countries to commit human rights violations is perhaps acceptable since we should regard it as a respect for their culture, and opposition to such practices is "imposing our culture".

Any Iranian man or Arab man can accuse his wife of Adultery even though she did not have an adulterous affair just to get rid of her, when he no longer wants her. They should have to prove it if they are going to continue on these barbaric man made laws.

Enough is enough. When are men going to learn the true way to a woman's heart? Not by abuse but by unconditional love you know the same love that GOD shows Man. Wise up MEN!!!! If men want loving adoring wives live by example be that which you want and the same goes for the wives!!! There is no excuse for either side!!!
