The pictures coming from the gulf reminded me of this bible verse.
Here it is, in full context.

Romans 8:22

For we know that all creation keeps on groaning together and being in pain together until now.

So I look forward to this happening.
Revelations 18:11

18When the nations got angry, you became angry too! Now the time has come for the dead to be judged. It is time for you to reward your servants the prophets and all of your people who honor your name, no matter who they are. It is time to destroy everyone who has destroyed the earth."

That was an excellent OP until the end. The images are so moving and then you tacked on a Bible verse and missed a great opportunity to say something meaningful.

Maybe there's been enough destruction already? Perhaps 'creation' could be be better served by the a-holes responsible learning a couple of lessons and financing the clean-up for as long as it takes?

Why the violence? What a turn off. Just who destroyed the earth? I heard it said once that it might just be the more so-called religious among us who are the ones who really don't care about the planet because they're looking at this as just a short stop on their way to somewhere else. Wonder if there's any correlation. In the name of money, in the name of god. What's the difference? I may not be making sense...it's late, I'm tired, and this whole thread just disturbs me.

People have had centuries to improve the planet, instead their track record is abuse and misuse. They have been given every opportunity to change it.

Our planet is near ruination, the bad tenants need to be evicted before it`s too late.

In my belief structure I have faith that this is going to happen, and soon.

Unlike most other Christians, I believe that the bible teaches that God will save this very earth we are on right now, and reverse the ecological damage. So we can actually live on it and enjoy it.
We do what we can now to minimize the damage to the planet.
But what can we do about greedy commercial businesses like BP that continue to pollute the planet, not too much.

This thread should disturb all that view it, the pictures are disturbing.
And if you find the final bible verse quoted upsetting, remember it is calling for an ecological revolution against the commercial polluters of our planet to save the planet, and that isn`t a bad event.

I appreciate that. Don't regard this as an attack...it isn't. From the safety of your belief system, you are able to call for the destruction of the rest of us. In your view, you'll be putting your feet up in Heaven while the rest of the sinners are burning. The 6 billion people are a part of creation too!

It bothers me that the earth is being destroyed because I plan to live on it rather than in heaven. I also don`t believe any sinners will be burning in hell.

Those ruining the earth will simply be removed from it, just like a landlord evicts a bad tenant that is damaging his apartment and disturbing his neighbors.
In the end what choice does the LORD have to save the planet from ecological destruction, other than to step in and intervene.
Revelation 11:18 is the warning issued almost 2000 years ago.
Another version

But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time for the dead to be judged, and to give [their] reward to your slaves the prophets and to the holy ones and to those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.

The bottom-line is, God said, look after the earth or be evicted, unfortunately eviction from this earth means non-existence.

Quit interesting how the photographers could not have intervened. I mean, come on, they were right there and not one of them scooped up the critters themselves or offered to clean them up?

So what do you want eviction or total annihilation? Perhaps Fire and Brimstones, again?

I seriously don't know how I'll enjoy the 4th of July on the 76th day of the oil spill. I'll put on a facade and pretend I'm having fun when I'm with my family setting off fireworks, but after all the disaster in the gulf and incompetence after, it will be a challenge.

Maybe they did? We can't know if they helped or not. It'd be nice to think at least some of the Press have been helping out instead of just observing!

Although not religious, I was given a leaflet by some evangelical type a couple of years ago. There was a story in it that stayed with me and relates directly to your point...

Some guy's walking along a beach and sees that thousands of fish have been washed up on the shore. He then sees some other guy throwing them back in the sea...one at a time. The first guy says, "Dude! What's the point? You can't save 'em all. It's a waste of time."

The other guy carries on throwing them back in, laughs, and replies, "Ask this one if it's a waste of time!" and throws another one in the water.

I see it as a damn good reason to save those poor critters even if takes just one at a time. We can't save 'em all, but every one that survives is a small success....especially to the animal!
