New study documents media's servitude to government

www.salon.com

A newly released study from students at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government provides the latest evidence of how thoroughly devoted the American establishment media is to amplifying and serving (rather than checking) government officials.

Similarly, American newspapers are highly inclined to refer to waterboarding as "torture" when practiced by other nations, but will suddenly refuse to use the term when it's the U.S. employing that technique.

I am sure that this is nothing new to most of us here at ATS. I think it's safe to say we all understand the relationship between our media and our government, and if you don't, well now we have a study to point a few things out to you. And no it has nothing to do with Bilderberg and it's media blackouts.

Our media(or should I say our government's media) has always put a spin on things they report. Which is why two different outlets will write similar stories, but put their own opinions into the mix to confuse you and keep you thinking about the separation between what's right and what's left, instead of what's being reported. Even more so when they are talking about foreign countries and their policies as if they're unjust, even when we do similar or the same things here.

I like how this study focuses on waterboarding and how they treat it like it's not torture, unless they are talking about some other country doing it. It shows the complete hypocrisy of it all. There's some great statistics in this article and it even touches on how the word "terrorism" was manipulated by the media. Everyone should give this a read.

Nice to see people looking at what many here have known for a very long time. As the article below it sort of states, this is universal though. It's global, and it stems from monopolies, which we used to disband for very good reasons in the past for reasons of pure commerce. In this case it would seem even more vital to disband them for reasons of truth and fairness.

And on the subject of propaganda, these "news" organizations better watch their steps because they can be tried for war crimes, should it ever get to that point, as were news organization after WWII. You know. When people still thought things like ethics and treason were important.

Cool.

An interesting factoid for anyone interested:
In the UK there is over 300 gag-orders in effect, and those gag-orders also include talking about the gag-order in place.

But the insidious relationship between the culture creators, culture enforcers and the corporations who profit as a result is disgusting.

speaking of mainstream media manipulation, this video is quite suiting to this topic.

An interesting study.

I watched an interesting video about this kind of thing the other day:

The idea of embedded journalists, and not wanting to lose sources causes a massive failure in the mainstream news.

Then you've just got guys like Geraldo who think even things told to reporters shouldn't be reported!

An additional element to the conversation can be found here:

www.youtube.com...

Fox dealt miserably with these two reporters, and due to a certain judge, got away with hiding the fact that Monsanto had dosed nearly all the milk in Florida with Bovine Growth Hormone, despite the fact that the UK and Canada ran tests and decided against the use of this hormonal injection in dairy cows.

These reporters were told to go and find stories, so they found this one. Pulitzer material, really. And the government's role in it, allowing the additive with little data and extremely short-term testing of rats.

It was not allowed in Canada because of the toxicity to living organisms.

Our FDA welcomed it with open arms.

Their "manager" turned out to be just a representative of Fox News, and tried to bribe them, fire them, and exhaust them into keeping quiet not just on the news, but for the REST OF THEIR LIVES.

Check out the story of what happens when good reporters do their jobs in this day and age.

in the wake of 9/11, Bush changed laws, the media is under the same ridiculous threats of being labelled as domestic terrorists as the citizens are.. being taken away, imprisoned, tortured and given no trial is a big threat against the people.

the media went from hounding the crap outta Clinton to kissing Bush's private place..

and the real question is why people haven't made a fuss about it??

because they are under the illusion that their country is a democracy and they have freedom.. US politics has been completely corrupted by MONEY.. in a way that UK, Canada, Australia have not..

America's political system is just pure capitalism.. which is now a threat to the rest of the worlds security.

by the time the US wakes up out of it's induced coma... it will be too late, we will all be living in a fascist world dicatatorship.

If you really still think it's just the United States, your own country's propaganda machine clearly works on you.

This is global, it's just easier to see it from the outside..

Edit: S&F, it's always good to have some studies done to back up OUR agenda
