Any Info on grassroots donations and how to help locals

After this great thread yesterday with the grassrootsmapping.org...

Has anyone any links or information of other groups that are working on a grassroots level that can take donations.

It would be interesting to collect some info so I can pass it along to others I know whom may be willing to donate.

The groups could be providing support to local people who need help, anything from keeping the homebound up to date, donating to a kitty for website/ community meets, or even just printing out leaflets on adverse health effects.
