Josh Tickell is a professional speaker, author, filmmaker and enthusiast on alternative fuels. His specific experience and focus is on biodiesel, a diesel engine fuel based in vegetable oil and electric vehicles.

Tickell grew up in Louisiana, where members of his family suffered from pollution-related diseases. As a result, he began to look for alternatives to petroleum in college, when he learned of biodiesel while working on a farm in the former East Germany. Fascinated, Tickell started to conduct his own research. He translated documents written by the inventor of the diesel engine, Rudolf Diesel, and found that the first diesel engine had been designed to run on vegetable oil, not petroleum.

here i have a link for his movie " Fuel ", now i must say that at points during viewing this i had a major lump in my throat. This man is on a mission and by god hes giving it his all.

The Veggie Van Voyage

Tickell returned to the USA, bought an old diesel-powered Winnebago van that he painted with sunflowers and called the “Veggie Van.” He built a small biodiesel processor that he named “The Green Grease Machine” and then set off on a 25,000 mile, two-year tour of the USA powered by the biodiesel he made from used grease collected from fast food restaurants along the way. This journey, which eventually became known as The Veggie Van Voyage, attracted the attention of numerous media outlets, serving to promote the publicity of biodiesel as a viable alternative fuel.

here we have a link to his own website.

Josh Tickell’s work has taken him from the grease dumpsters of Florida and the farms of the Australian Outback to the Laboratories of the Department of Energy and the oil refineries of the Gulf Coast. He has worked with and directed actors such as Woody Harrelson and musicians such as Sheryl Crow. In addition to his directorial work, he is the author of two books around sustainable energy: From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank - The Complete Guide to Using Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel, and Biodiesel America.

As a director, Tickell focuses on sustainable energy, environmentally conscious films, and films with a social impact. His film FUEL won the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for Best Documentary. The movie was released theatrically in the United States and played in theaters for over a year, during which time it reached critical acclaim in over 50 cities.

He has engineered a number of successful social impact campaigns for clients such as Sapphire Energy, Hero bx, Green Mountain Energy, Paul Mitchell Systems, and Solazyme. Tickell has acted as an energy and marketing consultant for companies such as Clif Bar, Audi, Yum Brands, and Long John Silver’s.

Having grown up in the polluted bayous of South Louisiana, Tickell was extensively involved in hurricane disaster relief efforts. His nonprofit organization was selected by President Bill Clinton as a part of the Global Initiative on Climate Change.

Tickell lives and works with his wife, Rebecca Harrell Tickell in Santa Monica, California. Together they operate the production and marketing company, GreenPlanet3d. Among his upcoming slate of movies is a film on alternative education at New College and a documentary that deals with world population issues.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Living from the New College of Florida and an MFA in Film from FSU’s School of Motion Picture Television and Recording Arts.

Also he has written two books which can be downloaded for free from his website.

From the fryer to the fuel tank - The first book ever to delve into the world of biodisel - an amazing new fuel made from vegetable oil that works in any diesel engine and has the potential to change our society.

Biodeisel America -Biodisel America shows that an abundance of available, economically viable, and profitable energy solution exists.

I would strongly suggest checking this guy out and watching his movie and reading his books. i have just finished the movie myself and must say-- WOW. i am going to start his first book right after this post
.

In the movie he talks about how the rise of biodeisel was going amazingly then all of a suddden MSM started claiming it was more dangerous that anything else. Which is a shame because thaqt is just not true. There is a mountaihn of information here en.wikipedia.org...

Enjoy everyone and thanks
