I used SVO(straight veg oil),no filtering or heating for 2 years/25000miles in my old ford diesel van.
It was cheap, and actually seemed to run a tad better than using normal diesel.
Every couple of months I would chuck in half a tank of regular diesel,in an attempt to keep the injectors/fuel pump clean.
After no problems for 2 years, the fuel pump died-not really sure if that was as a result of the veg oil,or just that the van was old and falling apart by then.

Saved a lot of money, but did smell like a chip shop.

My mate has used SVO in his renault van for about 3 years, with no problems so far.

(Although people do not reccomend using unheated SVO,I and my buddy had no real problems for a good while.)

But maybe if I had spent extra on a filter system my pump may not have died so quick. Not sure.

Good luck with it anyhow!

I used used cottoseed oil mixed with a little diesel in my landcruiser for a while it worked fine.
The downside is it works better with some motors and wont work at all with others, my motor is a direct injection they don't like using relative straight oil if you get a indirect injection motor you can cold filter your oil and use it straight. Do not use it with common rail or direct injection motors. Bio should be fine with those.
Good luck it can be time consuming running around collecting free oil lol.

Thanks very much, I'm doing a little research on the straight veg oil option at the moment.

Seems there is some kind of turf war in london collecting used vegetable oil, amazing really , but great news shows it is in demand.

wars

Competition has become so intense that some racketeers are stealing oil and equipment from opponents in what have been dubbed "cooking oil wars".

Beverly Hills, an SUV, and biodiesel made from human fat

Under investigation is Craig Alan Bittner, who recently left the US to go to South America and "do volunteer work at a clinic." While he was still in Beverly Hills, he worked at Beverly Hills Liposculpture where he sucked fat out of "pampered Los Angelenos" (as Forbes put it). He then converted the body fat to biofuel for his Ford SUV and his girlfriend's Lincoln Navigator

Hehe, yeah watch out for the smell-one guy at a garage near me has called me "chip shop man" ever since(even though I haven't had the van for a couple of years!).

I didn't mind at the time, because I was saving money on fuel-but now its getting a little tiresome...
