so if the escambia health department tested the pensacola beach water every day before the oil spill

my question is, are they still testing the water daily?

Yes.

They always check the waters daily. Not only for water quality, but also for bacteria, red tide, predatory fish (sharks, etc.), and rip currents.

The county health departments, sheriffs departments, life guards, and residents are all very active in monitoring and protecting the beaches and the naive tourists. Some still managed to get themselves killed, but we do our best.

As for swimming in oil. It won't hurt you if you don't do it everyday. Sure, nobody advises you to swim in oil, but it is probably stupid to slather yourself in suntan oil and chemicals and drink acidic soft drinks and eat plasticized over processed foods to! Tourists always get sick when they are on vacation. You eat bad, you drink too much, you get too much sun, you get into things you don't understand, you don't sleep right, you find out about new allergies in a new geographical area and climate, you manage to find every jellyfish in the sea, and overall you just do some dumb stuff while on vacation.

Escambia County tests for STD's too, I bet they export more STD's than they do oil!
