so you took into account that no external radio waves being recorded onto the tape , the fact that tape heads could of been out of alignment and not actually deleting every sound that was pre recorded onto the tape ?

mp3 these voices and let us hear them

not if two people hear almost exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.it would have to be a biiiiigg coincidence.

I had a play around with this EVP stuff and it was interesting. Most of the noises which sounded like voices were unintelligible, although there never seemed to be voice sounding noises when I was out of the room. I was careful not to create extra noises when recording.

The source of white noise I used was a condenser microphone put below the blades of an AC fan. I have plenty of experience with using Cool Edit and Adobe Audition for noise removal like suggested for the purpose of EVP.

I understand also that the brain can pick out things that sound like words from random noise sources like fans. I'm still very skeptical about all this.

Well, lets try it then. I think I know what was said in this particular recording, because it was said after I had done something and come back into the room which was recording. It was also in context with what I was doing at the time.

Keep in mind that I'm from Australia, so ghostly types around here probably have Australian accents aswell.

Recording 1

What does anyone think that says?

what is that ? heavily processed white noise ? sounds like you have created lots of harmonics somehow

what did you do to create that sound ?

I sampled about 8 minutes of white noise from a fan. Then sampled a small portion of the white noise in Adobe Audition and used a noise filter to remove it. This is where you are meant to hear ghosts talking, in the remaining audio. But the audio is fairly degraded by that time obviously and all that is left is harmonics and chirps.

On occasions I have heard stuff that sounds like voices, but as I said, most of it can't be understood and is probably related to the brain being able to pick words out of natural sounds.

Not quit esure if this fits in directly with EVP but here goes.
3 years ago I was recording an album with my band in the studio we rented. As part of the process of making the songs more interesting we were recording various things that were lying around to add sounds to the mix of the songs. One of the things we recorded was an old manual typewriter (the noise of the keys being pressed etc). This was recorded onto an unused reel to reel tape on a Tascam 8 track recorder. This was then mixed onto PC via the Wavelab program. The sound of the normal typewriter was a bit boring so we used the Pitch Shifter function to transpose the recording up 2 octaves which creates slight errors in the quality of the sound. On listening back to this new pitch shifted version we could hear what sounded like a voice generated from the noise of the 'column' (is that what its called, the bit the paper coils around?) when it was pushed back to start at the left margin. About two minutes into the recording the voice actually 'said' something recognisable. "Its Impossible" is what it said. Freaked us out as you can imagine. I'm not sure if the original unedited version is still around somewhere, but the edited version ended up on the album. If someone can tell me if it's possible to upload snippets of audio here I'll gladly do it.

I think my parents have a tape recorder. If they do, I'll let it run while everyone is away at work.
