I had thought the reason they could not cap the leak originally was due to breakage underneath the ocean floor. Is this still a threat?

Here is the vid of the installation of the transition spool. Rather long, but worth it if you are truly interested in seeing what happened.

Okay... Am I thick or something? Cause I don't see any oil escaping anymore. Have they actually done it or is the oil plume off screen on the live feed images? Don't want to start getting too excited!

Read the last page... They just put on a new piece of pipe. I believe their fitting a more snug cap on tomorrow.

Don't get too excited.

Oil is leaking out of the new opening about a story above what they have been showing. Next step is the new cap, then the three-ram stack with the perforated tube coming out of the top. Oil will be flowing all of this time, and then when the stack is in place, they will seal the cap with the self-sealing mechanism, then remove the perforated tube. If you watch the animation I posted a link to earlier today, you will see what will happen.

ETA of course, it was late last night I saw that animation and I may have the steps reversed, so forgive me if I did. End result is still the same though.

Thanks - I'll check out vids and images. Pretty tired so wasn't thorough in my reading before posting query.
I'm feeling weirdly nervous - SOOO want this stuff to work but scared it could all go tits up...

The transition spool they are bolting in place right now has a traditional well head fitting on the top. The three ram stack (which is designed to mount on a traditional well head) will attach it’s self to the fitting on top of the transition spool.

They are currently working on torquing the flange bolts that attach the spool to the old BOP.

This operation is resulting in some nice clean hardware on top of the BOP that looks like it can be connected to and managed properly.

WTH didn't they do this way earlier in the process?

Just saw Ocean Intervention III ROV 2 get lifted off the ship and dropped to begin it's next op. No biggie, just haven't caught a launch on the feeds until now...

I still have a question open that I asked way earlier in the thread - who does C&C for all the ROV ops and keeps the dogs pulling in the same direction down there? Who's on the mic that speaks into all to ROV operator's ears and gives the orders?

I am not sure if anyone is watching now, but BOA deep sea 2 is out of the water and you can see the controlled burns taking place at the surface.

Are you sure those are burns? I think they're just the floodlights from the flotilla. I think Boa Deep C ROV 2 is just going over the side to begin an op.

Are these new feeds added to realitycheck.no-ip.info... ?

Oceaneering Cage 1
Oceaneering Cage 2
Oceaneering Cage 3
Oceaneering #85

I don't think they were there until this evening...

Sorry for the mess, I am new! The top left hand corner looked like flames on the live feed, moving about and such. I however could be mistaken.

Hey, I'm no expert either. We could both be wrong!

Just glad you're here...the more that are watching and thinking about what they are seeing, the better it is for all of us.
