So I have been summoned for jury duty soon, I have a couple questions...

I don't give a rats opposite-front end about our justice system here in america, I'd rather set a guilty man free, than an innocent man to jail. There is no persuading me one way or the other, so don't try.
This nation is policed with corruption from the top down.

Questions...

1. What type of clothing should I wear? I was thinking one of my anti government t-shirts or something...?

2. How long does jury duty last? Hours? 1 day? few days?

3. What is the pay like?

4. Why should I, or shouldn't I care?

5. How soon should I fill out my questionaire?

6. If I fill out my questionaire latter, does that increase my chance of not being called to be a juror come that time?

clothes should be casual, something you would wear to a Red Lobster.

Most people don't get chosen so chances are you won't.

The pay question can be answered by you contacting the Clerk of Court.

Turn your cellphone OFF.

It's everyone's duty so relax, put yourself in the accused's shoes, they deserve a fair trial.

If all else fails claim strong, weird religious beliefs, ie. Heaven's Gate type stuff, they will dismiss you immediately.

Thanks, also how about these questions...

5. How soon should I fill out my questionaire?

6. If I fill out my questionaire latter, does that increase my chance of not being called to be a juror come that time?

5. How soon should I fill out my questionaire?

Whenever, just do it in time.

6. If I fill out my questionaire latter, does that increase my chance of not being called to be a juror come that time?

Not really, what jury selection is going to do is give both the prosecution and defense the opportunity to question you. If you want out, just screw up the questions. A guaranteed way out is to go completely conspiracy theorist on them, you will be out of there before you know it.

This depends an awful lot on what kind of jury service you're called for and where. I've been dismissed after one day, served on a jury for a trial that lasted about a week, and served on a grand jury for I think it was 2 weeks (all in NYC). My sister recently got a grand jury summons in southeast PA that says if she's picked she will serve for 18 months one or two days a week.

4. Why should I, or shouldn't I care?

I found it to be an interesting experience to see how a real trial worked. Whether you like the system or not it's the one that we have, and it's worth learning about.

So I guess I'll just fill the questionaire out now then, I can do it online, so it shouldln't take more than a few minutes.

Also yeah, to the last two posters...

I was going to go completely conspiracy theorist on them.

I don't have any "formal" clothing of anytype, just tshirts, shorts, and wrangler camo pants...its all I wear, lol

I plan on just making it a day thing, if my group number is even called, I may not even go in then.

Suck it up and do your duty.

It may be a hardship for you, and it will take time out of your life, but if you ever go to trial I think you'd expect a fair and impartial jury to consider your case without bias. You would want them to reach a decision based on the facts of the case and nothing else.

I attend trials on a regular basis. Judge only trials leaves a person's life in the hands of one person. A jury of 12 needs to reach a consensus to have a conviction.

If you pull some stunt during jury selection you can be held in contempt and face charges yourself.:shk:

Medical issues are valid, but be prepared to back it up.
Strong feelings towards the outcome or prejudice on the crime could get you an exclusion. For example, if you have been raped and it's a rape trial the defense will cut you from the pool.

Prior knowledge of the accused or the crime committed will also be grounds for exclusion, but not always.

I really encourage you to serve. It could be a learning experience at best. And worse case scenario, you lose some time from work and serve your community.

Do what you think is right.......

Edit: Still working on my spelling.

Like I said before I already planned on going

Why do you attend trials on a regular basis, your proffesion?

Do we have to wait there all day staring at each other before the trial begins?

Questions...

1. What type of clothing should I wear? I was thinking one of my anti government t-shirts or something.

An ATS tee-shirt with cap, and don’t forget the shorts. Or, an orange jumpsuit will suffice!

2. How long does jury duty last? Hours? 1 day? few days?

How long is a piece of string – because that’s what you will need to hang yourself with after day 15!

3. What is the pay like?

Zip. Ask not what your country can do … yeh!

4. Why should I, or shouldn't I care?

You will be arrested and fined if you don’t.

5. How soon should I fill out my questionaire?

The questionnaire (with 2 n’s) should be completed asap and returned yesterday.

6. If I fill out my questionaire latter, does that increase my chance of not being called to be a juror come that time?

See 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 later

And yes, you have to stare at eachother for days on end - it's sooo painful and degrading.

This post will, may there be a God, self-destruct as soon as reasonably practicable.

P.s it's not all that bad, actually a good learning experience and something you may enjoy.

1. What type of clothing should I wear? I was thinking one of my anti government t-shirts or something...?

Wear court-appropriate clothing, or an angry judge could cite you.

2. How long does jury duty last? Hours? 1 day? few days?

Depends on if you get picked, even if not picked, could spend hours waiting.

3. What is the pay like?

Varies by state, etc., contact the Clerk of the Court, but chances are, a McDonalds clerk is making more than you are in Jury duty.

4. Why should I, or shouldn't I care?

Well, it's a civic responsibility that goes along with the right to vote (used to be, you had to own land to vote)...

5. How soon should I fill out my questionaire?

As soon as you can, some will simply keep you there until you fill it out...

6. If I fill out my questionaire latter, does that increase my chance of not being called to be a juror come that time?

Depends on the rules for your state, municipality, etc., but it could delay you even in getting out of there.

Your best bet at "getting out of it", is to simply see what the attorney is looking for in interviewing others, and make your answers unappealing to that goal. I actually was thankful for the learning experience, but if having to do it again, I'd rather not lose the money for losing the day at work. Jury compensation here is almost nonexistent...

I was just in a jury selection. A guy wore a t-shirt that had hand-grenades printed on it. He was dismissed quickly.
