The Oil is NOT going to evaporate and go into a Hurricane and Cause "Oil Rain".....when it does evaporate it goes so in very small amounts.....and takes a long time.....why do u think there is STILL an oil Slick

Like i said i was commenting about the OIL....A Hurricane will NOT "lift" up the oil from the surface of the ocean and cause oil rain....Hurricances move quickly across the waters.....they are not going to sit on the oil slick to soak up the oil

It doesn't have to be water, wind or oil that does all the killing. Think about how many people may have to evacuate in this scenario. Where to they go?

What happens to the small towns, that have say enough food supply for a week. What happens when that towns population multiplies by 10 times in a day?

Our infrastructure simply isn't designed to handle massive and immediate migrations, even on a temporary basis. Disease becomes a big problem when cities and townships are bursting at the seams with refugees. Food starts to become scarce, as does patience. Residents resent the refugees. Crime, violent and non-violent skyrocket as people take their survival into their own hands.

If you look at the big picture, it's not hard to see how a million could die. If a million did perish, I'd agree that only a small fraction of them would have been as a direct result of the hurricane. Indirectly however, there are literally thousands scenarios capable of killing, that could, at a later date, be traced back to the hurricane as their root cause.

Im going to have to question your knowledge of emulsifiers and the like used in the gulf...I also would like to draw your attention to the gulf war veterans many of whom speak of oil "raining down on them during the oil field fires in Iraq.

The dispersants and emulsifiers are creating or destroying chemical bonds not Natural to the elements involved...now Im not sure if experiments have been done in a controlled environment on what the final result is of the toxic cocktail of oil, benzene, salt water and so on...but it does seem irresponsible to make guesses based on different circumstances entirely as credence to make your point about the oil being impossible to evaporate.

Working in a laboratory for a living I have succeded in many things "that cant be done" through simple distillation and a variety of reagents, emulsifiers, enzymes and the like...I wouldnt be too hastey

if there is evacuations it will only bee for the area where the Hurricane is going to hit....unless others decide to voluntarily leave....but thats probably not going to happen

Look at all the people that stayed during Katrina.....it is still all not a real big reality....mostly just doom and gloom

Unlikely but it could make millions homeless. i don't think there is that many stupid people that would stay and be killed.

A hurricane could push million of gallons of oil ashore for 20 or so miles over 50 to 80 miles of coast coating everything.

Then all it would take would be a lightning bolt to start it burning.

All industry, homes, businesses, would go up in a firestorm.
All port facilities, boats, ships, along the coast would also burn.

The only people killed would be those stupid enough to stay and try to ride out the storm.
The loss of the oil refineries along the coast alone would put the country into a depression never seen before and make the housing meltdown look small as oil prices rose to $8 to $10 a gallon.

I for one, hope to God you are wrong!

BTW oil does evaporate, even more so once it has been dispersed...check NPR news along the Mississippi river this morning....storm dumped oil rain. I suspect a troll, as nobody would argue a point without any actual facts...now would they?

Hurricanes do in fact "pick up" the water from the Ocean. They don't move "very quickly" as someone said, and even when they are far inland, they are pulling their moisture from the Gulf and the "Feeder Bands."

Also, Oil does in fact evaporate. It also "vaporizes." Those are two very different and very important things.

The "Evaporation" is the amount of the oil that is in Gas phase at any one time. Certain components of the oil will be in Gas Phase at very low temperatures and they will be "heavier than air" components that will linger along the surface of the sea.

The "Vaporization" of the oil is another thing. Every liquid has a certain "vapor pressure" associated with it. This is the percentage of the liquid that is suspended in the air and it varies with temperature.

As the Hurricane builds, it will take up the Gas and the Vapors along with the Moisture, and it will carry and distribute it along its path. Even when the Hurricane is far inland, say Nashville or Atlanta or Dallas, it will still be drawing moisture from the Gulf and it will still be distributing these components of the oil.
