Judge Blocks Gulf Offshore Drilling Moratorium

A federal judge in New Orleans has blocked a six-month moratorium on new deepwater drilling projects that was imposed in response to the massive Gulf oil spill.

Several companies that ferry people and supplies and provide other services to offshore drilling rigs had asked U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman in New Orleans to overturn the moratorium.

It's short sweet and to the point.

They won't be needing as much of that $20 Billion slush fund as we thought... If they can continue drilling (or what ever job they hold in that area) their economy won't turn into AS MUCH of a welfare system as the elites would like...

That's probably the right decision. It would amount to punishing others for BP's misdeeds and negligence, something which is contrary to the laws and principles this country was founded on.

That said, I've come to the conclusion after watching the congressional testimony that the oil industry as a whole probably can't conduct deepwater drilling safely. Still, I think they deserve to have the opportunity to make their case in a fair manner and not be subject to a knee jerk decision based in political expediency.

Before the end of the week I'm sure that some radical environmental group will oil balloon that judges house and car.

Personally, I think it was foolish to begin with, this attempted ban on deepwater drilling - it's like punishing everyone in the class because one pinhead has an attitude problem.

Just because BP has more safety and environmental violations than most other energy companies doesn't mean those other companies reputations and better safety records should be penalized.

Aside from that, you're right - at least now TPTB can't celebrate the total annihilation of the Gulf Coasts' economy (just a good chunk of it).

Now if only we can rid ourselves of these inept politicians and give serious thought to developing alternative energy sources, I'll call this a three-for-three.
