Using the gun is not the only purpose either, just carrying it provides security, guns are an affective means of crime deterrent.

Criminals are already aquiring there guns illegaly since they cannot get a permit so i doubt we would see less guns there.

Gun control does not equal less violence ,ppl can use forks ,baseball bats ,bricks etc.If people are violent they will get violent guns or no guns.As you said it yourself ,stabbings will go up.

No, as that is false information and while a gun is a destructive thing, in the proper hands it can be used to protect.

You are refusing to see how a gun is often a safer means of self-protection over other forms of weapons such as knives.

If I go against a criminal who has a gun, with a knife, I am going to get shot before I could even put the knife to use.

If I have my own gun - the criminal is less likely to attack me.

Yes criminals acquire guns illegal since they can't get a permit. But the reason that they can aquire them so easily is because their friends and others can acquire them legally. You remove guns completely, not for hunting target practice anything , no permits for citizens. You have no gun problems in a few years.

They should make a harsh law like 10-20 years in prison for anyone with a gun.

Even if the common people surrender the guns i doubt the people who have illegal guns and who are using it for criminal activities will. Take their guns away and then maybe after a few ammendments about the patriotic law and reducing the power of armed forces inside US people can think about surrendering their guns.

They get them from illegal arms dealers mostly not from people who buy them at wallmart.If you where to buy a gun to give or sell to your friend who cannot get a permit and he commits a crime with it he would have commited it using a gun that is registered to your name.

Try that logic on an Aussie. Gun control in Australia sent crime waves soaring because the only people that control laws work against are law abiding citizens.

I grew up with guns in my house. We were taught at an early age their meaning, purpose and use. We didnt have to lock them up, rather we kept them handy. I used to keep a loaded 12 gauge under my bed by the time i was 12. No member of my family in was ever harmed by a gun as far as I can remember or since.

It is the irresponsible gun owner that creates those statics you are so proud of, not an inanimate hunk of metal. Guns, knives, sticks, and such only become a weapon when they are in the hands of a human being. Keep them out of the hands of the untrained and statistics will go down.

One thing your neatly packaged statistics dont cover is the people that create the problem. Take drug users, drunks, gang members, thugs, the depraved and the mentaly unstable and factor that into your equations and you will see that the highest probability of accidental death of a child by a firearm is nearly non-existent in the responsible gun owners category. It is far more likely that a drunk driver will hit an innocent, law abiding citizen on the roadway than it is a child in the home of a responsible gun owner will cause themselves harm with a gun.
